Re: PIA to Acquire up to Three Wide-body Aircraft on Dry Lease
As of my information, cabin interior will remain same including passenger seats. No plan of change.[/quote]
No surprise but that is clearly the wrong decision, Vietnam interior looks worse than PIA and PIA's is bad enough.

I know it sounds like I'm arguing for the sake of it but it is important that this matter is clarified. It runs the risk of damaging the reputation of people who have worked professionally and honestly.Abbas Ali wrote: PIA-acquisition of 5-Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft in violation of PPRA rules Rs 8.6 million,
The ppra violation which you have quoted is in reference to the lack of tender for the procurement of the 5x77W firmed in 2012.
As I have stated in my previous replies here, PIA has rightly argued that due to a desperate capacity gap, the 777 deals was signed without tender but by direct negotiation. I have also stated the provision within ppra rule 42 that allows this to occur.
The ppra has a very broad definition of corruption. Under their rules, if a company is found negligent in following the procurement rules, they can be charged under corruption laws. As such, the current scandal ultimately boils down to how ppra/tip/or whoever the complainant is interprets the procurement rules and it is important to note that it is not anything to do with as you allege bribery or in your words 'kickbacks'. As you will agree, being guilty of misinterpreting ppra rules is a much lesser offence than one of personal gain through bribery.
If what your interpretation of media reports is true and it transpires that Pakistani nationals, directly or indirectly involved in the 777 procurement have benefited, then the other party, in this case Boeing, will equally be in the spotlight for offering said kickbacks.
And we know the US Feds don't mess around in such cases, even where Boeing is involved:
Washington D.C., July 28, 2014 — The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation with violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) when employees and representatives of the U.S.-based parent company authorized and made improper payments to foreign officials while trying to win contracts to supply firearm products to military and law enforcement overseas.
Smith & Wesson, which profited by more than $100,000 from the one contract that was completed before the unlawful activity was identified, has agreed to pay $2 million to settle the SEC’s charges. The company must report to the SEC on its FCPA compliance efforts for a period of two years.
According to the SEC’s order instituting a settled administrative proceeding, the Springfield, Mass.-based firearms manufacturer sought to break into new markets overseas starting in 2007 and continuing into early 2010. During that period, Smith & Wesson’s international sales staff engaged in a pervasive effort to attract new business by offering, authorizing, or making illegal payments or providing gifts meant for government officials in Pakistan, Indonesia, and other foreign countries.

WASHINGTON — Boeing's former chief financial officer pleaded guilty yesterday to illegally hiring an Air Force official who helped negotiate a $23.5 billion deal for Boeing to supply 100 tanker aircrafts to the Air Force.
Mike Sears, 57, could face up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines, but his attorney said his sentence probably would be less severe. James Streicker said in federal court that sentencing guidelines put his client's sentence at a maximum of six months.
Boeing fired Sears, one of the Chicago-based company's top four executives, in November 2003 for discussing potential employment with Darleen Druyun, 56, a top Air Force procurement official, while she was negotiating a proposed tanker contract between Boeing and the Air Force.
Druyun, 56, then left the Air Force to work for Boeing, which fired her along with Sears after an internal investigation. In October, she received nine months in prison for the illegal job talks.
Darleen Druyun admitted she helped Boeing.
In court documents released at that earlier hearing, Druyun said she unfairly favored Boeing in several weapons-program competitions out of gratitude for the company hiring her daughter and son-in-law.
She added that she gave Boeing what she considered a "parting gift" before leaving the Air Force: a higher-than-deserved price for its tankers.
The conflict-of-interest revelations, along with concerns over the cost of and need for the planes, have grounded a once-promising program for Boeing

I don't think we should pass judgement on the cabins of these incoming 777's based on a couple of blurry pics. When they land here and proper pics are shown, then one can conclude their opinions.

"AP-BMG" B777-2ER first appearance; Vietnam Airlines markings removed.

BTW, aircraft cabin color scheme is different from PIA, which doesn't matter. Airline already operating different aircraft with various color schemes.

Yeah, but this colour scheme (brownish-beige-yellow) doesn't match PIA does it? Very Air India like, don't you agree?Umar Farooq wrote:"AP-BMG" B777-2ER first appearance; Vietnam Airlines markings removed.

Re: PIA to Acquire up to Three Wide-body Aircraft on Dry Lease
Though most members suggest that PIA operate new routes with the 777s, I think the priority should be to convert the LHE-ISB-PEK-NRT-PEK-ISB-LHE route to a 777. It is a high demand route, and with the Noon League government China is a priority destination. Even NL are operating flights to China. With CZ, NL and Air China already flying to China with much newer aircraft, and the ME6 offering better service, PIA is left behind. Time to up their game.

Completely agree with this. Out dated A310's don't compare to A330's operated by Air China. Although with the addition of the two ex Vietnamese 777's and maybe the ex Kenyan birds, what routes would PIA operate them on? No new destinations are being announced, wouldn't surprise me if they are going to be used domestically.Sherry3002 wrote:Though most members suggest that PIA operate new routes with the 777s, I think the priority should be to convert the LHE-ISB-PEK-NRT-PEK-ISB-LHE route to a 777. Re: PIA to Acquire up to Three Wide-body Aircraft on Dry Lease
Very true! The dated A310's are not even close to the 77W's and A330's offered by other airlines. Exorbitant fares for a dated A310 too. Since no new routes have been announced till now, I suspect what you've said is true. Domestically is the way these 777's will operate, or maybe on the current Europe routes.dreamliner99 wrote:Completely agree with this. Out dated A310's don't compare to A330's operated by Air China. If the A310 must be used, it shouldn't be pushed any further than India. Or perhaps sometimes UAE. I'd like to see the A310 just bow out in style now, like Thai has done with their A300's.

Re: PIA to Acquire up to Three Wide-body Aircraft on Dry Lease
masha Allah.
good to see induction of b772-ER. hopefully pia will be able to induct further of such type in the future- delta ceo predicts an oversupply and falling selling price( as low as 10 million us$ - although leasing experts expect 40Million US$)
from the pics it seems to be on a 3-3-3 config.
does anyone know if it has crew rest area?
in my opinion pia should convert some of the 777 into 10 abreast/ dense config(low J,high Y )for saudi route as a333 doesnt seem to be joining in the near future.

Re: PIA to Acquire up to Three Wide-body Aircraft on Dry Lease
Probably this ex-Vietnam Airlines Boeing 777 going to be deployed to perform PIA flights mainly to/from Saudi Arabia.
PIA plan to strengthen position/increase flights for Saudi Arabia was mentioned in a press briefing some weeks ago about induction of dry leased aircraft in airline's fleet.
