Abbas I have my doubts, the logo came out much before any plans for a uniform, it should have been on the A320s if not other types.

Somehow, they were able to introduce it in advertisements, ground equipment and signage at some places.

^ I think deal for acquisition of five brand new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft directly from Boeing Company is cancelled because an enquiry has been launched against that deal because PIA was going to acquire those aircraft without proper bidding invitation in violation of Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules/regulations.

Related document shown on a news channel recently. Investigation might reveal names of people who received kickbacks (if any) in that deal.

Through a proper bidding invitation, aircraft leasing companies could have participated in bidding process to offer PIA five brand new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft at good prices.

It is wrong of you to speculate and suggest there was corruption involved only on the basis of Pakistani media reports.

The deal was signed as per industry norms. The only area it fell short is the silly ppra violation that was committed by naming the sole supplier (Boeing). All PIA had to do was specify the following ' Bids are requested for Boeing 777-300ER aircraft or equivalent' with the emphasis on 'or equivalent'.

It is ridiculous that PIA will now potentially lose pre delivery deposits held by Boeing all due to archaic, backward and outdated procurement rules.

That's not to mention this is only in the spotlight now due to personal grudges and political vendettas.

It does beg the question, why wasn't the ppra violation held up at the time of the firm order in 2012 by the courts when the idiots* at transparency international first started meddling?

*Remember, it's the same idiots at TIP who took the airblue MDs suggestion seriously and suggested PIA lease A320 from him. You know, the deposits which he couldn't afford to pay airbus \:D/. (Because there's no conflict of interest at all is there :!: )

Not to mention that when PIA first ordered the 777 in 2001, they to accused PIA and Boeing of corruption by comparing 777-200(A) values with 777-200ERs. Of course at the time, that tamasha was quickly put to the end by the the military.

Lastly, if you plan to operate the aircraft for an extended period as PIA do, it is ALWAYS better to buy outright and not dry lease. The financing was already in place for these 5 77Ws. All PIA had to do was pay the final deposit at aircraft handover.

I've spoken to Chaostheory on airliners.net who tells me PIA didn't tender this requirement for 5 77Ws.

Nevertheless, the deal was without corruption and per industry norms.

How is this for a bit of tip hypocrisy. The current 5x77W order is in doubt due to PIA not tendering the requirement in 2012. PIA claimed they didn't need to tender as per ppra 2004 rule 42 part d(iii)

Alternative methods of procurements.-

A procuring agency may utilize the following alternative methods of procurement of goods, services and works, namely:-

negotiated tendering.- A procuring agency may engage in negotiated tendering with one or more suppliers or contractors with or without prior publication of a procurement notification. This procedure shall only be used when,-

(iii) for reasons of extreme urgency brought about by events unforeseeable by the procuring agency, the time limits laid down for open and limited bidding methods cannot be met. The circumstances invoked to justify extreme urgency must not be attributable to the procuring agency:


PIA rightfully claimed at the time that due to some 747s and A310s being grounded, they were desperately short of capacity hence the direct order.

Referencing the A320 lease suggestion above from airblue, tip suggests PIA use the same ppra rule 42 d[iii] to lease without tender. See here:

I agree. Our media loves finding and extracting every little problem or rumour about PIA and then making a big deal out of it.

I will also add that whenever there is a problem with PIA, it is displayed on news channels as breaking news, and thus we hear a lot about PIA in a negative light. We never hear about PA or NL do we?
PIA, Emirates, Etihad, Qatar, Lufthansa, BA, Turkish, American, AirBerlin, Thai, Air France, Delta, Korean, Qantas, and many more. :D

As of my information, cabin interior will remain same including passenger seats. No plan of change.

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is investigating that deal.
FIA is presently investigating 39 mega corruption scandals with an estimated price tag for the treasury of Rs 33.8 billion. The mega corruption scams include five different cases with respect to Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) amounting to Rs 31.5 billion, 12 cases of TDAP of Rs 7 billion and Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPD) Rs 0.04 billion.

Additional scams include involvement of PSO employees in fraud, forgery impersonation, cheating and misrepresentation estimated at Rs 7.561 million, corruption in Afghan refugees camps amounting to Rs 13 million, Staff Colony Golen Gol scam Rs 250 million, Utility Stores Co-operation (USC) Rs 15.1 million, Hajj scam Rs 544 million, OEC Tower Sihala Chemical Complex scam Rs 86.678 million and Skill Development Council (National Training Bureau) Rs 45 million, Capital Development Authority (CDA) (Abu Dhabi Tower F-11) Rs 78.96 million, Mars Exchange Company Rs 700 million, Live Securities Karachi Rs 145.755 million, PSO account officer and HBL Rs 193.5 million, Narcotics Control Division Rs 2.26 million, PIA-acquisition of 5-Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft in violation of PPRA rules Rs 8.6 million, and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, (PEMRA) Rs 40 million.
