Karachi-Hyderabad Service Launched

KARACHI:
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has accorded permission to a private carrier to operate commuter service between Karachi, Hyderabad and Lahore, marking a watershed in aviation history of the country.

The airline, Aircraft Sales and Services Limited (ASSL), will use a 48-seater twin-engine aircraft on the route that links two domestic hubs with a lesser developed city, an initiative proposed in the new draft aviation policy to promote intercity traveling.

“Yes we have started to implement the progressive aspects of the policy,” Director General Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) told The News.

ASSL is likely to start operation on thrice weekly basis. The flight time between Karachi and Hyderabad will take only 20 minutes.

Is ASSL planning to use Fokker F-27-500 discussed in following topic?

Topic: Refurbished Fokker F-27-500 going to Pakistan (Posted On September 11, 2006)

Or is it going to be one of Fokker F-27-500s (AP-BHE & AP-BHF) of Expo Aviation of Sri Lanka. AP-BHF was on dry lease to PIA from June 2005 to July 2006.

Looks like ASSL aircraft will be refurbished Fokker F-27-500 (ex-D-ADUP) that arrived in Pakistan last year (see topic: Refurbished Fokker F-27-500 going to Pakistan)

Tail section of same Fokker F-27 can be seen in photo taken at Karachi Airport on September 1, 2007.

Here's photo link: http://myaviation.net/?pid=01170579

Does anyone know AP- registration issued by Pakistani CAA to this aircraft ?

ASSL Inaugural Flight Delayed For Few Days On Technical Grounds

Tuesday, September 25, 2007
By Saad Hasan

KARACHI:
Under a new aviation policy, anyone owning a small 30-40 passenger aircraft could start a commuter service on some lucrative routes after meeting certain requirements. One such airline, Aircraft Sales and Services Limited (ASSL), was to start operating its 48-seater twin engine aircraft from early this month on Karachi-Hyderabad-Lahore route. However the inaugural flight has been delayed for few days on technical grounds. Director General CAA Farooq Rehmatullah had told The News that a number of other aspirants want to start such commuter service.

The ASSL Fokker F-27 Mk 500 (c/n 10686) is one of last F-27s built by Fokker Company in late 1985 and delivered to USA’s Air Wisconsin in February 1986. Only five more F-27s were built after this aircraft by Fokker Company after which F-27 production ceased and Fokker Company began producing Fokker 50 which was upgraded model of F-27 with new engines, new cabin, avionics etc.

The F-27 Mk 500 (c/n 10686) before joining ASSL in 2006 spent its entire flying career in Europe and North America. From 1986 to 2006, the aircraft remained in service with western operators including United Express (Air Wisconsin), Amadeus Air, Ratioflug, Sky Team and City Air.

I believe ASSL F-27 still has many years of flying left in it.

Here are some photo links showing ASSL Fokker F-27 Mk 500 (c/n 10686) in markings of its previous operators.

Apparently delay in inaugural flight is due to rehabilitation and renovation work being carried out at Hyderabad Airport. (Details in Topic: Hyderabad Airport Re-opening)
