PIA invites sealed bids from well reputed, national/international firms, or joint ventures for carrying out infrastructure planning for complete revamping/rehabilitation/restoration, feasibility study, external and interior designing, quality assurance, preparation of tender documents, technical and financial evaluation of the constructors and supervision of the project Revamping/Rehabilitation/Restoration of Iconic Infrastructure of PIA Ispahani aircraft maintenance hangar.

In late 1970s, PIA spent more than 17 million US Dollars for construction of on a new hangar capable of housing two wide-bodied aircraft. It was the largest construction project undertaken by the airline at that time. Netherlands Airport Consultants (NACO) and Toyo Menka of Japan assisted with the design and supply of pre-fabricated steel structure. The construction of hangar and related workshop was completed and commissioned in 1980.

The hangar has been named after Mirza Ahmad Ispahani who was the longest serving chairman of PIA from 1955 to 1962.

Really hope PIA makes an MRO and offer services locally for many airlines in the country and region. PIA has very talented engineers who can offer best services if treated on merit.

PIA already offers technical handling to Qatar,Salam air , Saudi Arabian and gulf air. Hope after renovations PIA engineering can earm critical foreign exchange for the airline.

Today, Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique at a press conference in Lahore today informed:

Project to revamp and rehabilitate PIA Engineering Ispahani Wide-body Aircraft Maintenance Hangar at Karachi Airport to cost approximately 1 billion rupees.

Revamped and rehabilitated hangar will enable PIA Engineering to increase its business and earnings.

It have to be done many many years ago. Continuous neglect of PIA affairs and other engineering related facilities specially at KHI station brought over all aviation of Pakistan at bargaining position, which is not good.
