A couple of questions regarding QR, LGW and DOH...

Post by tanzeel »

I recently booked my flight from LGW to ISB via DOH on QR through an online travel agent (9flights.co.uk). Now when I retrieve my booking on QR's website, there's no option to preallocate my seat a'la EK or for that matter, even PK. I made a Qmiles account to see if I could link that with my booking. I made a skywards account last year since I couldn't preallocate my seat without one on EK but the same thing doesn't seem to be working with QR. On the bookings page, the only option I have is "advanced passenger information" and thats not very helpful as every time I put in my details and click proceed, an error message pops up saying the details can't be updated. I'd appreciate any help with this.

Also, since I've never traveled through LGW and DOH before, I could use some suggestions on how to kill time there, and more specifically for LGW, how to get from the bus station to the north terminal.

I flew JFK-DOHA-DMM and vice versa in Dec '09 and Jan '10 - and went thru the same exact headaches you are going thru.

First and foremost other than by directly contacting Qatar Airways either by phone or at the time of check in you will NOT be able to pre-allocate your seats. I tried the Q-Miles acct method also but that is not an option!!

The best way to do it is as follows:

Go to http://www.seatguru.com - and then click on the Qatar Airways options and look at the seating plans for the aircraft you are scheduled to fly on. Next call Qatar Airways in the UK and have them pre-allocate your seats. Option B would be to show up to the airport early and request the seats at that time.

Last and but not least - i had the same issues with the error messages on the website. After numerous attempts - i finally got intouch with QR staff who advised me to enter my locator code at the following website....

Doha Airport is not great. It cannot handle the pressure QR has put on it. If your transit time is less than 2 hours - i would advise getting off the plane asap because the security lines are long!!

With that being said - QR was awesome!!
