Looking for some help - Flight Simulator - X

Post by yasirpk »

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and hopefully some 1 will help me. I am a 14 years old and have a passion for aviation. Last year my dad promised me that if I get good grades at school, he will get me a gaming laptop. I have got good grades and hence he is getting me a laptop of following specs:

Name: Alienware M15x
Processor = Intel Core i7 820QM 1.73GHz (3.06GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache)
Memory = 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz 2 x 2048MB
LCD Panel = 15.6-inch Wide FHD 1920x1080 (1080p) WLED
Video Card = 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M
Hard Drive = 256GB Solid State Drive
Operating System = Genuine Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit, English
Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
5.1 Channel Audio
Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11AGN Half Mini Card

Please tell me if this is good to play Flight Simulator.

I have played this game once at my friend's place and now I have permission to buy this game also. I have looked into it and see there are three editions of Flight Simulator, Standard, Deluxe and Gold.

Can you please tell me which edition of FSX is best that I should buy?

Are there any more good flight simulator related games, please tell me the names?

I have checked FSX clips on Youtube and some have real good graphics/scenery/planes and some don't.

Do I need to get any other software to make my FSX more realistic and appealing?

Also please tell me the name of any good FSX controls, I have looked at Logitech Force 3D Pro, and Saitek X52 Pro Flight Control can you please tell me which one is better or if any other?

I hope some one will answer me. Thanks and have a nice day... ! :)

Hello Yasir,

Welcome to the forum.

Your specs look really impressive, yes they are more than enough to play Flight Simulator on.

To answer your questions, where are you located? Are you in Pakistan? If you are, you wont find the 3 editions by name, you'll get what ever is in the CD. However I dont have FSX, perhaps some one else could better guide you with which edition is the best.

Microsoft Flight Simulator, is the flight simulator, it is the most widely available and used. Yes there are thousands of other aircraft simulation games, but MSFS is the king.

Yes, you can get great sceneries, and aircraft for FS from a variety of websites, like flightsim.com, avsim.com and simvation.com
They are all free, make an account, and download the aircraft of your choice. When you come around to it, there are lots of PIA aircraft, and Pakistan sceneries available for FSX also available, simply search these websites.

As Pakistan's only active flight sim based website, Virtual PIA strives to bring you more and more of PIA's fleet into FSX. We also have some reviews for joysticks/products in our online magazine and some websites from where you can buy the latest joysticks and controllers.

Log on to http://www.vpia.org to view the magazine, and visit the only Pakistan based Virtual Airline...........

Hope I answered most of your questions!
