On following link is January 23, 2009 photo of Aero Asia Rombac 1-11-561RC (AP-BFC) parked at Bucharest Airport in Romania since year 2002. According to photo caption, this particular aircraft was first Rombac 1-11-561RC ever built and first flew in 1982.

Thanks for the picture link Abbas. Did this ac ever fly in Pakistan? or was it just painted in Aero Asia colors and never made it to Pakistan?

^ You're welcome atmalik. AP-BFC served Aero Asia from 1993 to 2002. During initial years this aircraft flew under Romanian registration with Aero Asia and it was among a number of leased Romanian-registered Rombac 1-11 aircraft operated by Aero Asia in 1990s.

In late 1990s, Aero Asia registered four leased Rombac 1-11 in Pakistan and AP-BFC was one of them, the other three Aero Asia Rombac 1-11 registered in Pakistan were AP-BFD, AP-BFE & AP-BFF. Later, Aero Asia replaced these Rombac 1-11 aircraft with US-built aircraft like Boeing 737-200 and DC-9. Aero Asia suspended operations in 2007 after failing to follow CAA rules & regulations.

AP-BFD, AP-BFE and AP-BFF are stored at Karachi Airport since 2002. These three aircraft can be seen in following photo taken at Karachi Airport last year by forum member Pfactor.

Btw, does CAA get aircraft parking charges payment for three Aero Asia Rombac 1-11 aircraft parked at Karachi Airport?

Aero Asia operated Yak42 for sometime before the boeings and DC9s, they also operated a single A300B4 jointly with Shaheen, it was originally a Shaheen leased aircraft used for Peshawar-Dubai route, later repainted in Aero Asia colours, Do you know more of this Abbas? did Shaheen shutdown or stop their own Dubai service that they entered this joint agreement with Aero Asia.

I really did not know about Aero Asia A300B4, that's a new piece of information for me.

Btw, Aero Asia operated Boeing 707 also.

Oh yes 707 was there it used to operate weekly Karachi-Bishkek service.

I heard that 707 served the president of Romania until they sold it to Aero Asia

^ Aero Asia operated leased Boeing 707 aircraft.

In February 1995, Aero Asia leased a Romavia Boeing 707-3K1C (c/n 20804, l/n 886) registered in Romania as YR-ABB. Aero Asia returned this Boeing 707 to Romavia in May 1995. Earlier, this particular Boeing 707 had remained in Romanian Government's use for sometime.

Then in 1997, Aero Asia once again leased a Boeing 707. This time it was a Boeing 707-321B on lease from Jaro International which was a Romanian charter airline. The Jaro International Boeing 707-321B (c/n 20022, l/n 774) with Romanian registration YR-JCB was leased to Aero Asia from November 1997 to September 1999.

great information Abbas, thank you. I guess if CAA was able to get payments from Aero Asia they might still be flying

On another note, when ac's retire like these or others. What happens to the registration numbers? Do they get retired too or can they be used again o a different ac?

As far as I know, under Pakistani CAA rules a registration once issued to an aircraft cannot be re-issued to another aircraft in future. That means AP- registration issued to aircraft that have been sold/retired/scrapped/crashed etc. their registrations cannot be issued to other aircraft in future. Like for example registrations that were issued to PIA aircraft in the past like Viscounts, Boeing 707 etc. their registrations cannot be re-issued to other aircraft.

Aviation rules vary from country to country and there are some countries like for example USA and India where registrations issued in the past to aircraft that have been sold/retired/scrapped/crashed etc. such registrations become available again and can be issued to other aircraft.
