PIA Re-starts Operating Flights From Hyderabad
HYDERABAD, Aug 19 (APP): Federal Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs and Investment Syed Naveed Qamar vowed to restore the lost glory of Hyderabad by providing required infrastructure so that the citizens of the second biggest city of Sindh could face no inconvenience in getting basic needs at their nearest.
The minister expressed these remarks while addressing as chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the restoration of PIA flight from Hyderabad at Hyderabad Airport here on Tuesday afternoon.
The minister however, emphasized the need of the cooperation of all stakeholders including, traders, industrialists, agriculturists and the public representatives adding that with the collaborative efforts, the lost status of Hyderabad will be restored.
He appreciated all those, who strived for the restoration of flights from Hyderabad Airport adding that now the time has come to make the airport sustainable so that in future, direct flights could be made available from Hyderabad.
The minister asked the officers concerned of Civil Aviation Authority to prepare PC-I in order to made Hyderabad Airport feasible for landing of Boeing and Airbus planes in future.
Referring the demands made by the District Nazim Hyderabad Kanwar Naveed Jamil regarding provision of refueling facility at Hyderabad Airport in order to ensure direct flights from Hyderabad to Islamabad, the minister assured that the demands will be fulfilled at the earliest.
He also assured that the problems of Pakistan International Airlines will also be addressed in order to make it a profitable organization.
The Managing Director PIA Captain Aijaz Haroon while speaking on the occasion said that the restoration of PIA flights from Hyderabad Airport was one of the promises of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, which now fulfilled with the cooperation of all stakeholders.
Initially, he informed that the PIA management has mounted two flights with ATR Planes from Hyderabad via Nawabshah, Lahore and Islamabad on every Tuesday and Friday. The direct flights could be made operations, if PIA receives the refueling facility at Hyderabad Airport, he said.
He said that the PIA has restored the flight operation in order to facilitate the citizens of second biggest city of Sindh. However, he said that provision of basic requirements including a developed road as well as facility of public transport from city to airport is essential to make the flight operation success.
About cargo facility, the Managing Director PIA assured that till the launching of cargo flight, the management will ensure cargo facility by road from Hyderabad to Karachi with objective to facilitate the traders, industrialists and agriculturists of Hyderabad and its adjoining areas.
Referring the problems, being faced by PIA, Captain Aijaz Haroon said that the organising is facing the losses of Rs. 45 billion and there is the need that the government should facilitate the organization as being done with other industries of the country.
The Director General Civil Aviation Authority Sajid Habib in his address has assured the expansion of runway of Hyderabad Airport subject to increase of passengers.
He said that CAA has been engaged in improving airstrips of many airports of the country and said that if the flow of air traffic increase from Hyderabad Airport, the airstrip of the airport will be re-carpeted with facility of landing of Boeing planes.
The President Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Haji Muhammad Yaqoob in his speech highly appreciated the efforts of the District Nazim Hyderabad Kanwar Naveed Jamil for restoration of flights from airport and demanded the PIA management to mount more flights from Hyderabad in order to facilitate the citizens of Hyderabad.
The District Nazim Hyderabad Kanwar Naveed Jamil in his welcome address thanked the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani for restoring PIA flights from Hyderabad adding that with restoration of flights, the business and sports activities will be geared up in the city.
He also thanked the Minister Finance Syed Naveed Qamar and MNA Salahuddin for raising the issue at the flour of the assembly and said that with the special cooperation of PIA management, the restoration of flights from Hyderabad could be made possible.
He said that Hyderabad Airport is only the airport among other small airports of the country where the facility of night landing is available and if the airport receives the refueling facility, the flights from Hyderabad could be made sustainable.
The District Nazim said that landing of Boeing planes could be made possible if the runway of the airport expands from seven thousand meters to nine thousand meters. He said that launching of cargo flights could be beneficial for the growers of Hyderabad and its adjoining area.
Later, the Federal Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs, Revenue, Privatisation and Investment Syed Naveed Qamar unveiled the plaque of the restoration of PIA flights from Hyderabad Airport.
The Minister also welcomed and presented gifts to the passengers including MNA Salahuddin who arrived from Islamabad from PK-640 and later, the minister left for Islamabad in Flight No: PK-641 via Nawabshah and Lahore.
