Aicraft is being handled by KLM engineering and they have expressed thier inability as they want to take the aircraft to hangar and longer grounding as well as spares required.

PIA engineering is sending its own team with spares to retrieve the aircraft in minimum possible time.See pics in PIC section.

What was the crew doing flying through such rough weather??

Should the crew have diverted before flying through the bad weather?

Here's rough translation:

PIA flight PK-770 originating from Paris had to make emergency landing at Milan Airport, Italy, after encountering hailstorm during flight.

The hailstorm has damaged aircraft cockpit windshield, nose radome/radar and dented sections of fuselage. All 280 passengers & crew aboard the aircraft are safe.

same question in mind, experts please comment!

AP-BHX is on dry lease so the repairs will be on PIA's account or the leasing company's account?

Yeh cheez! The crew depended too much on technology. Where does that leave us. Flying a billion rupees property through this weather is criminal. The operating crew should be fired straightaway. If Ejaz Haroon knows them as the back of his hand, it could be another story. But again, technology went for a six.

What the hell? What were the suphisticated radar systems on 777 and on-ground doing? This is really bad. Shouldn't happen like this.

the crew did their job very well, what ever they do to follow the instrument according to their training, and those instruments are there not for show off.

Aircraft getting damaged by hailstorm is something not new in airline industry and in some such incidents in the past aircraft have been damaged beyond repair.

The good thing is that AP-BHX crew managed to make safe emergency landing and saved lives of everyone aboard the aircraft.

Air traffic controllers could also be responsible for this incident. I believe Italian or EU aviation officials will take part in investigation because this incident happened in their air-space and we'll have to wait for initial investigation report to know how this incident happened and whether it was avoidable or not. Unlike CAA in Pakistan, aircraft accident/incident reports are released by aviation authorities for general public viewing in most of western countries.

And, btw, following is link to an interesting page with photos showing how much hailstorm can cause damage to man-made things including aircraft.
