AP-BMX is operational now. Also, BLA has been assigned flights according to flight radar. That bird has been grounded since the start of last year.

Are BHW and BGL officially not part of PIA fleet anymore? When you check on flightradar for the operator it says N/A

How is it the fault of the engineering department.

When the airline has no money for spare parts and the management tells them to cannibalize planes for parts what are they suppose to do??

In the past 15 years this became the norm as 777s were scrapped for parts and ATR42s.

Out of the 34 aircraft in PIA's fleet, 17 are still temporarily out of service.

The situation is particularly dire for the airline's Boeing 777 fleet, where 7 out of 12 planes are grounded. Additionally, 7 out of 17 Airbus A320 planes are also non-operational.

The airline's smaller ATR aircraft have not been spared, with only 2 of the 5 aircraft currently active.

The grounded planes have been affected by a lack of essential components, including engines, landing gear, Auxiliary Power Units (APUs), and other vital parts.

Many of the components from these inactive aircraft have been repurposed for use in other planes over the years, exacerbating the shortage.

The grounding of these aircraft has had a significant financial impact on the national carrier, with PIA incurring millions of dollars in losses.

The delay in acquiring the necessary spare parts has also led to disruptions in PIA's flight operations, including a potential delay to the airline’s planned Paris flight service.

Half of PIA fleet grounded, EU flight resumption at risk

PIA faces major setbacks with 17 aircraft grounded due to spare parts shortage, leading to financial losses.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) continues to struggle with operational efficiency as several of its aircraft remain grounded due to a shortage of critical spare parts.

It's the other way round, financial losses are inhibiting PIA's ability to acquire parts. Hence, the cannibalization.

So after 4 years of no flights to UK and Europe, now that PIA is allowed to resume to Europe, all news channels are running breaking news about how a high number of fleet is grounded. Does the airline really need this PR?

Although all legacy loans are off PIA now andits in Operational profit as claimed by airline spokesperson. Still no effort or strive can be seen by management to bring at least the current fleet back to service. UK sector is also expected to open soon by March 2025 there definitely be lots of Delays and cancellations.

At the very least all 10 777s should be revived asap and all A320s except the cannabized ones like BLT & BLA.

Also why are the Atr 72, Atr 42 sitting idle and is PIA still paying lease payment to their lessors?
Not a hefty amount is required to maintain them like a 777 still no action.

The report mentions that BMS's engine has been used on BHV. Hera pheri going on at PIA. These grounded aircrafts are going to be a major hurdle in the privatisation process.
