Pakistan CAA is going to consider suspended Serene Air international flight operations in case the airline fails to make its grounded aircraft operational this month.

Under Pakistan's National Aviation Policy, Pakistani airlines are required to maintain a fleet of at least five airworthy aircraft registered in Pakistan for operating international flights. The policy allows airlines to operate domestic flights with a fleet of at least three airworthy aircraft registered in Pakistan.

Presently, Serene Air is operating flights with three airworthy aircraft including two Airbus A330-200s and one Boeing 737-800. The airline's grounded aircraft include one Airbus A330-200 and three Boeing 737-800s.

According to Serene Air CEO Air Vice Marshal (Retired) Muhammad Safdar Khan, four aircraft in airline's fleet are grounded due to engine issues. The airline has sent four engines to Finland and one of airline's grounded aircraft is expected to become operational in coming days. Serene Air intends to make its fleet of aircraft fully operational within next three months.

They inducted the a330s with the hope of flying them to EU/UK. After the ban, they have nowhere to fly them. The domestic and ME market is already fiercely competitive. Beijing flights was a good move by Serene but again, too less frequencies. Beijing, Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo are good routes for them to utilise their a330s.

I was told by a travel agent in the UK a month ago that Serene Air has been bought by Air Sial and they are planning to get them operating more flights, and the plan will be for Serene Air to be a low cost carrier. Not sure if this is just a rumour?

I wonder why this airline has not still gone bankrupt? It has such a bad reputation among travelers, travel agents etc, there is no more confidence left among travelers.

Number of operational aircraft in Serene Air fleet is down to just two - an Airbus A330 and a Boeing 737.

For operating international flights under Pakistan's National Aviation Policy, Pakistani airlines are required to maintain a fleet of at least five airworthy aircraft registered in Pakistan.

For quite some time, Serene Air is operating international flights with less than five operational/airworthy aircraft registered in Pakistan.

Apparently, Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) as the country's aviation regulatory body for some reason has not been able to enforce country's national aviation policy rules/regulations in the case of Serene Air aircraft fleet.

Serene Air fleet status on September 15.

Whatever happened to the strategic investment into Serene Air?
