This makes commercial sense, im not sure why PK was operating to NRT - there wouldnt be many ex-pats and I doubt there is enough trade between the two countires. My guess is it was an old route that they didnt want to give up, despite the economics not stacking up.
They should be going daily into PEK or at least 3 times a week from LHE and perhaps code-share with CA to complement their ISB-KHI-PEK route.
