Revival of PIA

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) invites "sealed bids" from interested parties for the dry lease of narrowbody and turboprop aircraft as below:

Narrowbody Aircraft

Number of Aircraft: Up to ten (10)

Seating Configuration:

Category-I:
Minimum 124 seats (two class)

Category-II:
Minimum 150 seats (two class)

Lease Period: 6 years

Delivery Schedule: Immediate but not later than September 30, 2015

Year of Manufacture: 2004 or later

Number of Aircraft: Up to five (05)

Seating configuration: Minimum 48 seats

Lease Period: Up to 8 years

Delivery Schedule: Immediate but not later than March 31, 2015

Year of Manufacture: 2004 or later

Bids received will be opened on September 15, 2014.

I think PIA will be getting ATR on dry lease easily but will be having tough time for getting A320's.

They are asking Turboprop for eight year lease, wondering will it comes with right to purchase after wards or what?

According to following corrigendum in today's (September 18) newspaper, bids received for turboprop aircraft will be opened on September 19, 2014.



Bids received for narrow-body aircraft will be opened on September 25, 2014, under September 13 corrigendum.

I guess top five ranked ATR 72-500 aircraft (construction numbers 743, 782, 879, 908 and 982) offered by Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) will join PIA.

But rest of the other five have year built 2012, which is also very important factor. But according to lease term PIA have no other option to pick first five of them.

What About The Narrow Body ????

These five (05) ATR-72 means a lot for pilots holding commercial pilot license and sitting jobless. Happy moment for all those who waited 2-4 years of their youth. These aircraft means cheap tickets to secondary routes with better frequency too. I would love to see direct flights from Lahore to Skardu and Gilgit, as many local tourist from Punjab travel to north in summers along with many locals of Gilgit-Baltistan working and studying in Punjab.
