PAF Base Mianwali Named After M. M. Alam

March 20, 2014 - Today Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Base Mianwali was renamed as PAF Base M M Alam after 1965 Indo-Pak war hero and PAF ace pilot Air Commodore Muhammad Mahmood Alam who passed away on March 18, 2013.

The PAF air base in Mianwali became operational in 1971, according to PTV News.

Following photo shows then Squadron Leader M.M. Alam in his favourite North American F-86F-35-NA Sabre (serial number 52-5026) in 1965.

Note aerial victories credited to Alam indicated by a total of eleven Indian flags painted on this Sabre. Nine bigger flags represent nine Indian Air Force (IAF) destroyed by Alam and two smaller flags represent two IAF aircraft damaged by Alam in air combat.

The stamp was unveiled/launched by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at PAF Base M M Alam, Mianwali, on March 20, 2014.
