PIA is wasting time trying to acquire aircraft it cannot afford.
In the meantime, Shaheen Air has probably taken over a large chunk of PIA's Pakistani orgin labor traffic to the Middle East with its fleet of A330, A320 and 737-400.
Good luck PIA, I wonder how you will pay salaries to 23,000 employees while you have 25 aircraft operational.

PIA fears foreign airlines may assert hold on international routes
April 22, 2013 Amraiz Khan
LAHORE - PIA management fears foreign airlines could assert a hold on certain international routes due to delay in procurement of Airbus A320 planes, sources in the national flag carrier said on Sunday.
According to the business plan prepared by the PIA chairman, five A320 planes were to be purchased by March, but this schedule got changed and now arrival of planes is expected in this June or July. Sources said PIA had to postpone its plan of procurement of A320 planes due to financial constraints. They said PIA management had also called back its pilots undergoing an A320 simulation course in Sri Lanka.
Mashood Tajwar, spokesman for PIA, meanwhile said no pilot was sent to Sri Lanka, adding that the simulation course was scheduled for June.
Sources said PIA management might now purchase four to five planes since the government had not included cash injection in the bailout plan for the national flag carrier. They however added that PIA took loan from National Bank of Pakistan and paid a chunk of it to leasing company for delivery of four A320 planes.
Sources claimed that belated procurement of planes might damage the passenger market for PIA since foreign airlines were occupying international routes to enhance their business.

Re: Details of Airbus A320 Aircraft Offered on Lease to PIA
looking at the current turmoil in PIA due to equipment grounded, i get mad at the PPP's previous tenure who cancelled the deal with ALAFCO Kuwait for acquiring the A320s; if the deal had gone right, PIA would not have had the shortage for equipment and replacement would have been operational in replacement to B737s and some short-medium haul routes of A310s

The acquisition of a mere 5 used A320's is not going to turn the airline around and bring the miracles they expect to see.

A company spokesman said PIA will be inducting four Airbus A320 aircraft later this year. “We were expecting at least a dozen new aircraft last year, but approval for them never came,†he added.

It is only talking and giving statements. Those who want to do some thing will never waste the time. Shaheen Air is there as an example. Within 9-10 months they got around 7 B734, 2 A320 and 3 A330. Where there is a will there is a way.

Re: Details of Airbus A320 Aircraft Offered on Lease to PIA
above info is true. aircraft were not approved by Board , in their meeting held on friday the 26th. therefore, no 320's joining PIA for now. which means no narrow body in their fleet for a while as they will have to do a re-tender etc. so the whole process starts again and will take months, which means that acquisition of narrow body aircraft will take a few more months (if it ever happens). atleast another 4-6 months.. again.. AT LEAST.
God help this airline. PIA cannot survive without narrow body aircraft. and the more urgently they need these aircraft, the more there is a delay in acquiring them. We all can only pray this airline survives.

Re: Details of Airbus A320 Aircraft Offered on Lease to PIA
another flip flop in this a320 episode.the airline might close down but will never fly these a320.
new govt will come.new tender. new kickback rates. and someone might prefer b737-800
soon pia will have to suspend domestic fights with b737.and even they are 1 short of atr 42.
within few months their only flying machines wil be the b777 and atr 42.
