Turkish Airlines Announces LAX Service

Post by Zulfiqar »

Effective March 3, 2011, 4x weekly (Tue/Thu/Sat/Sun) 777-300ER.

Another option for travellers to the subcontinent. Dont know how swift the connections will be.
Sometime back we were wondering if PIA will start LAX service through PVG etc. Nothing came of that.

If its a nonstop service LAX will only be one stop away from KHI, but then EK is doing it as well.

EK advantage all wide body fleet and personal IFE, while TK fly 737 with no PTVs.

That's great to hear TK has codeshares with PIA at IST. The only two places I live at are Karachi and Los Angeles. EK's non-stop flight from LAX-DXB and DXB-LAX last time when I traveled was almost full load of passengers on 772LR with IFE (ICE) and that's what caused SQ and MH with poor passenger load, so maybe thats why SQ quit Pakistan. TK's price of tickets are nowhere near EK's and so it will be a major competition between them. =D>

This new service of TK's will somewhat negatively effect the market share of both CX and EK on the KHI-LAX-KHI sector.

On the KHI-IST-LAX route, thrice weekly connections are possible where as LAX-IST-KHI connects nicely twice a week only.

The fare being launched for KHI-LAX-KHI is US$ 970+ taxes by TK.

Behramjee, Well, I do agree with you that TK will have negative effect on EK and CX, but the negative loss won't be a big number. About the price of the route, LAX-KHI and KHI-LAX by TK, is it really going to be $970 including taxes??? If so, then that will be really cheap!

$970 is not a bad fare, and if you are in with any of the Star Alliance FFP's, it's a cheap way to earn up to 37,332 miles that count toward elite status...

Economy Class mileage earned = 37,332
LAX-IST = 6,871 miles X2 for R/T = 13,742 (x2 for UA 1K, CO Plat, US CP) = 27,484
IST-KHI = 2,462 miles X2 for R/T = 4,924 (" ") = 9,848

If you purchase a J-class fare, which I estimate would be between $3,500 and $7,000, you will earn 74,664 elite qualifying miles for this trip, which basically puts you less than 500 miles short of Platinum status on Continental Airlines. If you are US based, haven't flown all year, but know you will need status next year, and if you are overdue visiting the folks or your chaani, this is not a bad deal at all.

$970 is the cheapest fare you will find on LAX-KHI sector, atleast in my opinion. Thing is that EK has started another frequency of total 2 daily flights of DXB-LAX, LAX-DXB sector for around $1200-1300, so this is one is going to be tough to guess on who's going to win at this point? We can't decide for another 5 months (approximately) till TK starts its service to LAX starting March 3,2010

Quite a bit off topic (and quite a bit tongue-in-cheek), but PIA has had lax service for quite a number of years, but never really felt the need to "announce" it...

The fact that EK is now double daily from all US gateways means the era of the $299 all-inclusive dirty weekend in Dubai is almost upon us, which also means the era of the $450 US-KHI R/T EK/ED trip is almost upon us, brutal and taxing as it may be.
