JF-17 to participate in Farnborough Air Show 2010

Pakistan first indigenous multi role fighter aircraft JF 17 is expected to participate in one of the most prestigious Farnborough International Air Show in United Kingdom that will be held from 19th July, 2010 till 25th July 2010

The Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) is one of the world’s most iconic global aviation events. FIA holds a prominent position within the aerospace calendar taking place on a biennial basis (once every two years) over one week in July. The first five days of the show are traditionally trade days only, followed by a weekend where the exhibition is opened up to the public. The most recent airshow, FIA 2008, was a record-breaking year for business with US$88.7 billion worth of orders announced during the show. 2008’s event also featured 165 aircraft in static displays and spectacular flying displays and the public weekend attracted a staggering 153,000 visitors

JF-17 was NOT indigenously built in Pakistan. Aircraft design was co-developed between Pakistan and China.

The aircraft was basically assembled at Kamra and co-manufactured with China. Majority of JF-17 components were imported from European countries including avionics systems and aircraft engines (Russian Klimov). When Pakistan 'shall' be able to manufacture some of those components in Pakistan, it can rightly claim to use the term 'indigenously built'.

Kamra can claim with proudness that it produced parts of the aircraft platform (airframe) itself which was a great achievement for a country like Pakistan.

I believe both Pakistan and China will be represented as makers of JF-17 aircraft at Farnborough International Airshow. In aircraft's designation JF-17 also 'JF' stands for 'Joint Fighter'. Pakistan has played major role in designing, manufacturing, financing, flight testing, selection of components for JF-17 aircraft.

I hope a Pakistan Air Force JF-17 takes part at Farnborough International Airshow. Pakistan is the first country to have operational squardon formed with JF-17 Thunder aircraft.

I also hope JF-17 manages to attract customers and bag some orders at Farnborough.

This will also give oppurtunity to western aviation photographers to take photos of JF-17 and we should be able to see some good quality photos of JF-17 from Farnborough on international aviation photography websites like airliners.net.

I simply cant wait to see it at Farnboroug in July. All my family and many friends will also visit.

Watching this PAF bird roar infront of us and infront of thousands of spectators will be amazing. Will make us feel very proud indeed.........

According to following news report, two JF-17 Thunder combat aircraft of Pakistan Air Force will take part in Farnborough Air Show this month.

I think it means one of them will be on static display and the other one will perform in the air or perhaps both JF-17s will take part in air display.

I think visitors will also see PAF Lockheed C-130 Hercules parked somewhere at the airfield outside airshow area as supporting aircraft for the two JF-17 scheduled to take part in Farnborough Air Show. PAF officials, technicians, ground supprt equipment and spares for the two JF-17s will be carried by the supporting aircraft.

LONDON (July 06 2010): Pakistan Air Force will put on display its latest JF-17 Thunder warplanes at the world famous international air show in Farnborough from July 19 to 22, it was announced by Pakistan High Commission. The spokesperson at the High Commission said two aircraft will display their flying characteristics during the course of the biennial show where leading world defence manufacturers often unveil their latest aviation tools.

PAF Chief Air Chief Marshal Rao Suleman Qamar is expected to be present on the occasion. The Pakistan Air Force officially inducted its first JF-17 squadron on February 18 this year. The aircraft has been co-produced with China and will eventually replace its present fleet of F-7, A-5 and Mirage planes.

The Air Force has already announced that it has a confirmed order for 150 JF-17's which may increase to 250 aircraft. JF-17 Thunder aircraft is an advanced multi-role light combat aircraft jointly developed by Chengdu and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex under a strategic collaboration project.

The aircraft is designed to be cost-effective and can meet the tactical and strategic needs of the Pakistan Air Force, and various other air forces. The production facilities have been set up for the aircraft in Pakistan. The first batch of 50 JF-17 Thunder aircrafts will be equipped with the Chinese/Pakistani avionics and missiles, while the later aircrafts are to be equipped with more advanced radars and missiles.

Last week, latest version of three F-16’s aircraft were inducted into PAF. These were of 18 Block 52 C/D ordered by PAF from the United States.

It will be proud moments for PAF and Pakistan to demonstrate this Pakistan assembled/co-manufactured bird to the whole world.

However, little turbulance ahead for JF-17 program. Russia is again refusing to sell RD-93 engines to China for re-exporting purpose. This issue had arisen in the past as well. This could be a sales and bargaining tactic. However, in the long run, Pakistan MoD/Kamra must think hard to develop aircraft engine capabilities (R&D, manufacturing, testing etc) at Kamra. As I mentioned before, it'd be a difficult effort but worth of all the hard work.

^ Yes RD-93s were thought to be more powerful and suitable for this aircraft. I think presently JF-17 comes with a Chinese engine.
