Bomber rocked Peshawar Cantt, 5 killed, 20 injured: CCPO
PESHAWAR, Dec 24 (APP): A suicide bomber blew himself up at a police checkpoint in the highly red alert zone in Peshawar Cantt, killing five persons and injuring 20 others, City Police Chief Liaquat Khan said.“The bomber blew himself up when he was intercepted by police near PIA building and missionary Presentation Convent School on Arbab Road.
Five persons including policeman Hayatullah Khan and four others were killed,â€ÂÂLiaquat Khan told reporters at the site of explosion. The dead identified were Constable Hayatullah Khan, Muhammad Nasir and Shahinshah while policemen Ajmal and Haroon were injured. The city police chief said PIA building was the target of suicide bomber. Eight to 10 kilogram explosive was used in the bombing, said an official of bomb disposal squad.

Suicide Bomber Kills Five in Peshawar
PESHAWAR (December 25 2009): At least five people including a policeman were killed while 24 others were injured in a suicide bomb blast in the Cantonment area. The blast occurred at about 10:45 resulted in the smashing of the windowpanes of all buildings in the area and nearby parked vehicles.
The bomber reportedly blew himself up round the corner of a missionary Convent School, just opposite PIA Building, housing the offices of Pakistan International Airlines and Sarhad Development Authority. The school is already closed due to winter vacations on account of Christmas. Police said target of the suicide bomber was not clear. The experts of the Bomb Disposal Squad stated that of 8 to 10 kilograms explosive was used in the blast.
The people gathered on the occasion said that police had also opened aerial firing with automatic rifles soon after the blast. The security officials found the legs of the suicide bomber from the spot. Thursday bombing was second in the last three days as on Tuesday, a suicide bomber struck Peshawar Press Club (PPC) killing three people including a police official Riazuddin.

PESHAWAR: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA)’s Managing Director Captain Aijaz Haroon has issued orders of raising the security at all PIA offices in the country.
Captain Aijaz Haroon was talking to the media after condoling the death of a PIA worker, Saleem Masih.
He said hidden cameras would be placed at all the offices of PIA across the country apart from the scanners and security arrangements will be enhanced.
Aijaz Haroon announced financial help of Rs200,000 for the family of Saleem Masih besides provision of free education to his son.

KARACHI (December 25 2009): Managing Director PIA, Captain Mohammad Aijaz Haroon reached Peshawar to enquire about the welfare of the staff and officers working at the PIA Peshawar office and assess the damage to the premises. PIA Spokesperson said on Thursday. Managing Director PIA condemned cowardice act of terrorism where innocent lives are being targeted. He also visited the residence of Saleem Masih and expressed condolences with the bereaved family members.
He also announced an amount of Rs 200,000/- on behalf of PIA for the bereaved family members of Salim Masih. PIA will also bear the educational expenses of his son. Other Senior Officials of PIA also expressed their condolences with the bereaved family members. Bomb blast on Thursday morning at Peshawar Mall Road damaged PIA office and one of its workers Salim Masih, 35 of years of age lost his life. He has left behind one son aged 4 years, wife and mother.-PR

Sad to know that PIA worker Salim Masih was among innocent people who lost their lives in suicide bomber attack in Peshawar on December 24. My heartfelt condolences to his family and also to all those families who have lost their dear ones in the blastBomb blast on Thursday morning at Peshawar Mall Road damaged PIA office and one of its workers Salim Masih, 35 of years of age lost his life.
A vehicle belonging to PIA's Speedex courier service company also took part in shifting injured/dead to a local hospital after suicide bomber attack near airline's main office in Peshawar on December 24, 2009.
