Flights to America will soon cost less than £7, according to plans announced by Ryanair.
The budget air firm has announced a no-frills transatlantic service to six US airports.
The cheapest fares would be $12, or £6.80, Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary promised.
His new airline, operating independently of Ryanair, would fly a fleet of up to 50 long-haul planes in and out of Europe.
Mr O'Leary wants the service to be running within three years.
US airports identified so far include Baltimore, Providence in Rhode Island and Long Island Islip Macarthur in New York.
Mr O'Leary expects to increase revenues, despite the low fares, through the sale of food, duty-free products and in-flight entertainment.
He said: 'By mid-2009 we will be carrying 70million passengers at 23 bases across Europe.
'It will be relatively straightforward for us to do a deal for 40 to 50 long-haul aircraft to connect these bases transatlantically.
'There would be no one to touch us.'
His proposals come a day after a new discount airline called Zoom promised £129 flights between Gatwick and New York.

This whole 7 pound scenario doesn't sound good to me after seeing what happened with Canada 3000 and Jetsgo Airlines with $1 dollar seat sales across Canada and across the big pond. I have to wait and see this but no frill across the pond is not good for long haul flights as passenger would need to get meals on those flights without buying them on aircraft at 3 times the regular price.
