The Airbus A300B4 overran the runway after landing at Istanbul Airport on March 23, 2007.

Here are photos taken soon after the accident.

Why was it scrapped so rapidly  , specially at incident's site?, does anyone know the extend of damage as it didn't looked too bad in pictures right after the incident.

Here is why they scrapped it so quickly!!, Right main landing gear and whole right damaged badly, basically aircraft got written off almost immediately.

It had become unneeded attraction causing traffic havoc!...

A300's at this point in time are flying with cracks in their *Wing to Fuselage* frames, which encompasses Centre Fuel Tank. PIA was operating its A300's with those cracks as well. There is a limit to the lenght of the crack, I am not sure of the origin of Afghani A300. But after having undergone such stresses, the write-off option is most feasible. Eventually you get more money from insurance on these aircraft as compared to brand new.

The *KARTA DHARTA* of MNG airlines engineering is an ex-PIA chief engineer, who spend quite a few years in Line Maintenance 2 where A300's were maintained. He knew inside out about A300 conditions.

Do I have to write any more????

The scrapped Ariana A300B4 (registration YA-BAD) was one of three ex-Air India A300s donated by the Indian government to Ariana in year 2002.

YA-BAD was built in 1982 and delivered to Air India as VT-EHN in July of 1982.

Here's link to photo of the same A300 in Air India markings.

Yes Abbas Bahi it was one of those 3 aircrafts, now since 2 are gone, i wonder how Ariana is doing with only one remaining A300 left in service. Other one did emergency landing late last year with nose gear malfunction and aircraft seems to veered off runway by the tie aircraft came to a stop.

I will look for that you tube video showing the landing, mind you pilot did excellent job in keeping the aircraft on runway all the way till the end part.

Yes this the incident i mentioned in my last post of this topic, Pilot sure did good job with the landing but i wonder as if this aircraft was repaired and put back into service or withdrawn form service.

Full Thrust,

Thanks for the detailed background information on the cracks of A300s, i was not aware of them, yep its best to scarp them after incidents on this nature and get the money instead of risking passengers and crews lives....
