Refurbished PIA cafeteria inaugurated

KARACHI (November 12 2005): PIA CEO and Chairman Tariq Kirmani on Friday inaugurated the newly furnished and revamped PIA Cafeteria providing modern facilities. A few weeks after taking over, Tariq Kirmani one day went to have lunch at the main PIA staff canteen, being run by a contractor and was surprised at the condition of the place, the food being served and the general environment.

The menu being served was without much variation throughout the week and in a limited amount, more often not sufficient for the employees.

The atmosphere and the environment in and outside the canteen was such that it was below acceptable standards with dilapidated furniture, the steel crockery; the broken, chipped off washing basins.

The PIA Chairman took immediate note of this situation and ordered an urgent revamping and refurbishing of the entire place. As a result now a wholly new decor in a harmonious atmosphere and environment complete with floorings and lighting and furniture has come into being in a matter of simply eight weeks.

Now uniformed staff serves the employees with PIA logo embossed crockery, paper napkins, all in the ambience of an air-conditioned environment.

PIA's own Airport Hotel Management has taken over the management of the canteen from the contractor and the amount of food and quality has significantly increased. These measures have been so successful that the Managers and Senior Staff of the PIA head office have also started to take lunch there.
