How detailed is the rehabilitation? 1.5 year is too long,saw documentary once and dubai did it in a matter of weeks,perhaps someone wants commission for 1.5year.

I am also a bit surprised at the duration of the project. If Dubai can do it in 3 months, 6 months should be enough for the job. Or may be we donot know the extent of work?

I was looking at Lhe airport runways at Google map.
What if our Genius minds in planning division for CAA as well as Govt sees an opportunity to built an Exitway , crosses the main runway and link with the normal Taxiway which will reduce the runway block time, No need to back tracking and planes can easily vacate at the end of 18R. In my opinion Lhe airport authorities can utilise secondary runway in much better way by doing this.
Now i am not an specialist in words but i do understand the insides, like if they can add more runway at 36L by straightning the taxiway to runway allignment which gives extra meters for planes to take off. ( i have seen this at different airports ) i will try to add picture in next post which can explain this logic. This will increases the take off distance and landing distance will remain same.
And yes, one last thing. THey need to improve the runway lights and replace them with LEDS. It is impossible to replace the whole ILS system for secondary runway but improvement in lighting surely helps in better judgement in bad weather.

China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) will refurbish Lahore Airport's main Runway 36R/18L. Draining system will also be upgraded.

In December 1981 my late uncle Captain Nasir flew PIA B747 AP-AYW with me from London LHR to ISB but diverted to LHE Lahore landed Runway 38L at 0900am and parked end of runway 18R for 2 hours then flew back to RWP (old ISB) landed 1150am but good luck fortunately my father and me authorised got off LHE by PIA and Govt special permission with other 50 passengers who live in Lahore / Faisalabad / Sialkot / Gujawat. but 350 flew back to ISB. PIA staff showed me to got bag from AP-AYW then PIA bus took us to Arrival and immigration stamped passport and customs clearance then we were very happy went home in Lahore Cantt drive 5 minutes from LHE airport. I asked CAA LHE airport said that long time ago Boeing 747-100 landed LHE and KHI and ISB in 1970. My deaf friend Qamar (Capt Nayyar Iqbal PIA 777 retired's eldest brother) flew Boeing 747-100 I will try ask him to send me picture try to history of PIA to put inshallah. Lovely

Seems a bit shady to me CCECC is more related to railways and tunnels they haven’t been given an airport contract i hope they do it right at OPLA, considering the track record of chinese contractors regarding the new Islamabad Airport i am not too optimistic.

Is the closure of Lahore Airport main Runway 36R/18L also going to disrupt flight operations during foggy weather in winter?
Runway 36R is equipped with ILS CAT-IIIB that helps aircraft landing in thick fog/poor visibility.

Dimension of turn pad on Runway 18R are 320 feet x 250 feet (length x width). All pilots are advised to exercise caution while making turn on the turn pad Runway 18R.
On December 31, 2014, PIA Boeing 777-240ER (registration AP-BGK) flight PK758 from London landed on Lahore Airport Runway 36L and experienced landing gear problem with jammed/stuck main landing gear wheels when it attempted to turn from runway end.
At that time, a former official of Lahore Airport told a news channel that Lahore Airport secondary Runway 36L/18R ends do not have enough space to allow turns by bigger aircraft like Boeing 777.
The airport's main Runway 36R/18L was closed at that time due to an incident involving Shaheen Air Boeing 737-400 (AP-BJN) on December 30, 2014.

Lahore Airport main Runway 18L/36R will remain closed due to runway reconstruction work started on August 4.
Secondary Runway 18R/36L will remain available for flight operations.

Lahore Airport secondary Runway 36L used for takeoff by PIA Boeing 777-300ER (aircraft registration AP-BMS) Lahore to Riyadh flight PK9725 on September 21.

Most likely NOTAM will be issued when heavy machinery gets deployed to start main Runway 18L/36R digging/reconstruction work.

What is the advantage of doing all the repair works now when Lhe airport always suffers alot during winters. Ideal time was to made all the major repairs during covid period or Plan for next year in between Feb 21 to Nov 21.
Runway Lights on 36L needs to be upgraded as well as Rapid exit taxiway needed at 18 R for smooth operations on secondary runway.
