1981 Hijacking of PIA Boeing 720B

Combination of news videos about hijacking of PIA Boeing 720-030B (AP-AZP) in March 1981.

On March 2, 1981, AP-AZP was operating PIA's scheduled flight PK-326 from Karachi to Peshawar when it was hijacked and diverted to Kabul. Later, the hijacked aircraft was flown to Damascus where it was freed on March 14. A passenger was killed by hijackers when the Boeing 720B was at Kabul Airport.

A news video shows PIA Boeing 707-340C (AP-AXG) apparently arriving at Peshawar Airport in rainy weather with freed passengers and crew of flight PK-326.

Not sure who to blame for this incident, Zia or Murtaza.

Zia came down hard on PIA after a fire destroying a DC-10 followed by this hijacking, contributing to the downfall of PIA.

This hijacking could have been engineered by the government itself. I am not sure of how much of it is coloured by emotion but Fatima Bhutto has clearly stated in her book that Salamullah Tipu went to Kabul to float this idea prior to the incident and was told not to attempt it, so it could have been done by this guy along with his accomplices. There was no ideology, this person was just a drifter involved in murder also. Zia came down hard on PIA for the strike by a group of pilots of a sect who spearheaded it.The DC 10 was replaced.
