Without exact performance figures of the ?hawk, I doubt they would plan the mission without refueling. The straight line distance b/w Jalalabad is 250+ km, 40 minutes on station in hover and then back to Jalalabad with 12+ soldiers and thier equipment would stretch the helicopter beyond its endurance. Add to this the additional weight of stealth upgrade. Official mission radius of UH60 with 10 troops is 525 km.

There is not much we cold gain from keeping the tail, except prestige. The only major thing could ne the use of materials and external finish, for that a 6 inches piece is good enough and perhaps the airfoil of tail rotor blades. Remaining everything is not of musch use.offspring wrote:According to Fox news the Chinese had a look at the wreckage within the next couple of days of the incident.

Re: US Helicopters Raid in Abbottabad
In an interview recorded after Abbottabad raid, Air Commodore (retd.) Syed Sajjad Haider gives his views on issues like radar jamming, radar coverage, scrambling time for fighter aircraft to intercept un-identified intruders.
In this interview, he reveals that some 30 years ago Americans actually demonstrated their ability to jam Pakistani radars. The jamming of radars was observed by PAF officers in Pakistan. Since then the Americans must have made further progress in their radar jamming techniques/devices.
Syed Sajjad Haider is a veteran of Indo-Pak air wars of 1965 and 1971 and during 1965 war from Peshawar Air Base he led a successful strike mission with F-86F Sabre aircraft against Indian Air Force Pathankot Air Station.
