Tender document mentions that PIA is looking for upto 10 Aircraft now they have accepted 16, wondering why is that. Also, any idea how to tender for ATR72-600 looks like?

UTair-Ukraine ATR 72-500 (registration UR-UTK) also returned to lessor and ferried from Kiev, Ukraine, to Tolouse, France, today.

Earlier her sistership UR-UTL was returned to lessor on December 1.

UR-UTK and UR-UTL were among ATR 72-500 aircraft accepted in PIA bid evaluation report.

According to PTV News, Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting today approved release of 16.4 million dollars from total of 52 million dollars reserved for PIA.

This amount will be used by PIA for acquiring 15 aircraft on dry lease.

Probably these dry leased aircraft are:

5 x ATR 72-500
10 x Airbus A320-200

ECC approves $ 16.46mn for PIA to induct 15 aircraft

Saturday, 06 December 2014

Posted by Imaduddin

ISLAMABAD:
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on Saturday approved first tranche of $ 16.46 million for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for the induction of 15 aircraft in its fleet on dry lease.

The ECC, which met here with Federal Minister for Finance Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar in the chair, on a proposal moved by the Aviation Division, approved in principle release of the first tranche for December out of total $ 52 million requested by the PIA.

This amount would be injected as equity by the government and the PIA would complete all codal formalities in this regard, fully adhering to the procurement rules, said the Ministry of Finance in a press release.

The ECC constituted a committee comprising Secretary Finance, Chairman Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan and Secretary Petroleum and Natural Resources to analyze financial statements and projections before the second tranche was released.

The meeting decided that the PIA would revert to ECC after December 20 when the amount granted had been fully exhausted for the fresh installments, which would be paid on monthly basis as per requirement.

The meeting directed the PIA authorities to inform the forum at least two weeks before the actual payments were due so that the timely release of funds was made possible.

The bid evaluation for narrow bodies is only for cat-2. What about cat-1?
Personally, i think PIA should tryto get A321s. Although its difficult to find 321s in the market, but if PIA manages to get only a few of those, that would be very good to replace some A310s.

According to PIA bidding document.

Aircraft Type: Narrow body Aircraft (upto Ten)
Seating Configuration:
Category-I: Minimum 124 Seats (Two Class)
Category-II: Minimum 150 seats (Two Class)

Apparently PIA accepted A320 aircraft meeting Category-II requirement of bidding document.

Is the focus only on short-haul aircrafts?

What about long-haul aircrafts if this airline wants to 'survive' in this day and age?

Yes. Because the title of document shows this is only for cat-2. I guess a seperate bid evaluation will be published for cat-1.

Abbas bhai. Those 16 A320s you have mentioned, first six of them are powered by Cfm56-5B4. While the rest by Cfm56-5B6. That information may be wrong because as far as i know the -5B6 powers the A319 while -5B4 powers A320. Also, -5B6 has lower thrust than -5B4.
