In an effort to avoid withdrawal symptoms that could affect the performance of cigarette-smoking pilots, aviation and medical experts have determined that it's safer to let the pilots smoke in the cockpit. The effects of withdrawal in a habitual smoker are associated with decrements in vigilance, in concentration, and increased irritability. In fact, a cigarette is helpful to the pilots on stressful flights, it helps reducing stress.fly1346 wrote:...i think these pilots decide to have a smoke every now and then in the cockpit? is this true?

i have seen both capt and FO smoking at the same time whilst on duty. The capt even arched back in his seat and went "haiiiiI." I think I have a vid of him you can hear his voice but cant see much as it was night time. I will upload to youtube. And yea Ap-BHV's cockpit did smell of fag smoke
As for fags on board, look at the beginning of this video below (taken by myself) you can clearly see a benson and hedges box on the central pedestal....it belongs to the capt...

Actually it's banned in most airlines if not all (?) as far as I know. It is detrimental to the ability of the pilots. It increases the effects of Hypoxia and gives a false sense of security or contentment and impairs your judgement in an emergency situation.Saeed wrote:In an effort to avoid withdrawal symptoms that could affect the performance of cigarette-smoking pilots, aviation and medical experts have determined that it's safer to let the pilots smoke in the cockpit.
