ATR aicraft are towed by PIA engineering, who have been provided with a tug specifically to two turboprop aircraft without requiring TGS staff.

According to Jang newspaper (www.jang.com.pk), the incident happened around 3:00AM on May 3 (Thursday) when the aircraft was moved from washing bay to parking bay. The ATR 42 (registration AP-BHN) involved in this incident was scheduled to operate flight PK-582 from Karachi to Lahore via Rahim Yar Khan at 7:15AM on May 3. All twenty six passengers of PK-582 were adjusted on Karachi to Sukkur flight PK-390 which was re-routed as flight from Karachi to Lahore via Sukkur & Rahim Yar Khan.

The damaged AP-BHN was been grounded for investigation & repairs.

Can some exactly tell how many aircraft have been damaged on ground during past 2-3 weeks at karachi airport. It looks to be some sort of mutiny starting with the 777's incident.

To my knowledge these are the aircrafts so far damaged in recent ground incidents:

Boeing 777-340ER (AP-BHV)
Boeing 777-340ER (AP-BHW)
Airbus A310-324/ET (AP-BGO)
ATR-42-500 (AP-BHN) – The latest one!

Maybe someone has bribed these drivers to damage PIA aircraft.

These accidents must be costing PIA a ton of money, and something needs to be done.

I think a vision check should be conducted. Karachi traffic is not such that this can happen again and again.

I hope investigators tested blood alcohol level of drivers involved in these incidents.

Well at least in ATR incident, as reported the sheer pin broke, apparantly the driver is not at fault. The guy in the cockpit controlling the brakes is to be blamed. If while towing (pulling) the sheer pin breaks, the person in the cockpit has to act swiftly to apply brakes to avoid the ac hitting the tractor ahead.

‘Four PIA aircraft damaged in 20 days’

By Baqir Sajjad Sayed

ISLAMABAD, May 4: Four aircraft of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have been damaged over the past 20 days at Jinnah International Airport, reportedly because of lapses in ground handling by a private firm.

The latest victim is an ATR aircraft which collided with a vehicle on Thursday. The aircraft with tail number AP-BHN suffered damage to its skin, landing gear and one of the doors. One of the newest aircraft in the airline's fleet, it was commissioned on April 6.

The aircraft has been grounded for repairs. Engineers say it will remain out of service for a few days in view of the nature of the damage and delays in procurement of spares. The latest bad patch for the airline, which has been in crisis for quite some time and suffered losses close to Rs4 billion during the first quarter of the current year, started with a collision between two Boeing-777s on April 14. The tail of one of the aircraft clipped the tail cone of the other when being towed at Karachi airport prior to a flight.

There was a close miss on April 12, in which the tug master started pushing back an aircraft (flight PK-370) at a time when another aircraft was taxiing and the two narrowly avoided a collision.

Again, on April 25, an Airbus (flight PK-370) was hit by a cargo-loading vehicle.

A Thai airline aircraft was reportedly hit by a catering van during ground servicing.

The ground handling was outsourced by PIA to a foreign firm last year for improving quality.

Although exact estimates of losses due to these incidents were not available, but sources say they are in excess of half a million dollars in terms of revenue loss, disruption in flight schedule and repairs and spares cost.
