PK YGW hard landing / Terrible approach

Post by Shahab »

Update: Many thanks Vaqar for providing the details. It is an Indonesian 737 landing at Paro, Bhutan on 12/07/2021.

I came across this video being discussed by another pilot. Looks like an extremely unstable approach and a terrible landing.

Any thoughts on airline, equipment and the airport?

It was an Indonesian Boeing 737 carrying Covid vaccines into Paro airport , Bhutan. Paro has one of the most difficult approaches in the world and very few pilots qualified to land there. There was a local pilot as a guide in the jump seat guiding the Indonesian pilots through the approach but the pilot flying did make mistakes at the end and instead of going around, made a very hard landing causing some structural damage.

Many thanks for the update. As far as I was aware, only a handful of Bhutanese pilots are cleared to land at Paro. How did the non qualified Indonesian pilots ended up attempting this approach?
