I think this metro bus service will be useful and cheaper travel option especially for hundreds of people who'll work at the new airport. Will also be useful for airport visitors and passengers with small handbags/briefcases.
Metro bus service already exists for Rawalpindi/Islamabad so it will be easier to link it quickly with the new airport
Construction of metro train service will take longer time to be linked with Islamabad/Rawalpindi because currently the twin cities do not have metro train service.
Metro train service for the new airport and Rawalpindi/Islamabad can be constructed in coming years.

In that case shuttle bus services and scheduled bus routes will be more effective and efficient in transporting the citizens as the Metrobus can't go everywhere because it's dedicated tracks

Agreed. Also with so many new housing societies being developed around airport, it will cater the residents too. Another advantage of it would be a faster access to airport as metro route will not experience any traffic jams. The route to new airport can get frustrating as its the same route taken by lot of traffic going out of Islamabad, and we see long queses are still visible on weekends around Islamabad motorway exit. Although I doubt lot of air travelers would prefer metro over own conveyance.Abbas Ali wrote:I think this metro bus service will be useful and cheaper travel option especially for hundreds of people who'll work at the new airport. Metro train only to ISB airport from ISB will be too expensive to construct. The same amount of money can be use in multan or other major areas instead which will serve far more people than just people transiting to airport.Abbas Ali wrote:I think this metro bus service will be useful and cheaper travel option especially for hundreds of people who'll work at the new airport. The reason trains to airport work in west is because how big airports are and their contribution to economy in tens of millions of dollars. There are thousands of people that work at airport for whom parking is expensive. Also people cannot afford taxis to airport there, and rickshaws don't exist. Different economies.
I am not saying it will be useful to connect metro train from ISB to airport, but that much money will be more helpful for say metro train in peshawar. Also peshawar airport is very near to city than ISB to islamabad. Just like how metro train can work for Lahore airport, being close to city, which has a lot of population around it.

Each kilometer of metro train costs $24m for lahore. Closest station Faizabad to new ISB airport is almost 30km away.
I am asking for priority here. Should the gov't make 30KM metro train in peshawar/multan etc first, which can serve millions more, or spend $700 (24*30) million to make metro train to connect the airport with Islamabad - or serve communities that will develop in "coming" years?
Metro train is 100% more important for airports like Karachi, Peshawar, which have already developed communities and 30 KM of tracks can almost serve much of peshawar, catering to 5+ million population city.
The communities that will develop around new ISB will have posh people, who wouldn't believe in trains or buses. They can afford drivers/taxi/cars instead. Poor people will not buy properties around the airport now or close to it.
in 20 years, sure ISB airport can have metro train. But presently, metro train is more important to be made next to peshawar or karachi.

Re: New Islamabad International Airport Project
uzairali I think you are missreading their comments. They are talking about the Metro bus service but you keep on mentioning the train.
I think it would be a great idea to introduce the Met Bus service as it's direct and will be given the priority to run without having to stuck in traffic/ junctions.

The orbital speed of the Earth around the Sun averages about 30 km/s or 18 mps (108,000 km/h or 67000 mph).
Which means we're travelling 97 times the speed of sound. And yet we can't feel the motion, SubhanAllah
