Expectations for PIA from the New government?

Post by JIAP »

From a completely apolitical perspective what do the respected members of this forum expect from the newly elected PML-N government towards the development (or otherwise) of PIA. I am not aware of the work they did over their respective two (short) tenures but I believe that the A-310 was acquired around those dates but my question is not only towards fleets but also towards route development, the general staffing, care (effort shown by the party towards the airline), financial results and performance (quality).

Usually changes in top management of the airline take place when a new government comes.

And, new management often cancels decisions taken by previous management. An example is inconsistency and delay in Boeing 737-300 aircraft fleet replacement plan observed in recent years. The plan for new narrow-body aircraft procurement kept changing with changes in airline's management.

I think fortunes of PIA will not change as long as it's run by government interfering in business and management matters of the airline.

Financial help and bailout packages may also fail to help the struggling airline suffering losses since 2005. The airline appears to have become bottomless pit - no matter how much money the goverment shovels into the hole, there's always a need for more.

Privatization of PIA looks like a good option but it seems the airline will never be privatized.

I hope they avoid giving any key position to Shahid Khaqan in PIA or CAA as there be a huge conflict of interest with Mr Abbasi being the CEO of Air Blue.

Not much is going to change at PIA as reforms or improvement in PIA will never be their priority. The tops of the new government are business oriented people, they believe in more free enterprise encouraging more private sector . In their previous governments PIA received very little attention, accept exposing corruption in hiring and in other departments.

I dont think new government will dump more money into PIA, chances are they may make it a semi government or total private airline with some kind of employee protection by the government by some new laws.If not, not much will change or improve at PIA or CAA.

The tops of new government have personal ties and personal friendships with the heads of Government Of Turkey. you never know they may honour the THY PIA deal signed by the previous government reactivate it again and implement it immediatley.

Didn't the Punjab CM some time ago stated that the government should grant TK access to Lahore? Now as his big brother is taking charge of the new government, maybe that will change?

PIA has 150 billiion in combined losses over eight years.

Has around 24 operational aircraft.

Employees stand at 20,000+.

PIA needs investment and the government does not have it.

So whether PPP or PML (N) the problem is the same, NO MONEY.

Yes the first thing will be:

New Chairman
Old promise to revive airline
Old promise not to sell the airline
Old promise to get more planes
Old promise that no one will be fired
OLD PROBLEM ALSO. NO MONEY.

So my dear forum members, figure it out yourself.

Among my expectations from the new Govt is to order the removal of those Bhutto family posters and leaflets from hangars at KHI. All those Jiyalas and PiPlays need to be evicted from the overstaffed airline. But realistiscally-speaking this is too much to ask for and what is more likely to happen is renaming of LHE as 'Sharif Intl' or 'Itefaq Group' airport.

No they will not. Because it was PMLN government who made and sanctioned both lhe and khi as allama iqbal and jinnah int. Yes you might expect isb being named as liaqat ali khan int. As he was martyred in pindi as well.

Or Ghandhara International is not bad either...Rawalpindi / Islamabad and surrounding areas have strong link to this heritage.
