Future of PIA's B747-300 & B737-300?
Since the Tender Notice for acquiring 4 x B737-800 & 2 X B777 on dry lease has been issued by PIA, can anyone here on the forum clarify how many B747's & B737's will remain operational after the induction of these leased aircraft's?

Two 777s probably means that atleast 2 747s will go out.
Four 737-800s will probably replace five 737-300s built in 1985-86, leaving behind the single 737-300 built in 1992.
But I think PIA needs a smaller aircraft then the 737-800 on some 737-300 routes, for which ATR72-500 should be perfect.

Ammad agreed! ATR 72-500's could be used on various existing routes where currently a B737 has been deployed i.e. Kabul, New Delhi & domestic routes like Skardu, Multan, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan & Sukkur.
However I think PIA would still require some B737 aircraft's on routes like;
1) Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi & Rahim Yar Khan to Abu Dhabi
2) Islamabad, Lahore & Karachi to Muscat
3) Lahore & Karachi to Bahrain
4) Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan & Quetta to Dubai
5) Sialkot to Sharjah

Will PIA be able to sell the these old aircraft or are they more likely to break them down?

I dont think that PIA would be able to sell its B737, they would most probably be scrapped. However B747's could be sold and there are some customers out there like Iran Air who want to acquire B747's.

Probably one of PIA Boeing 737-300s will get preserved at planetarium planned to be established by the airline in Moenjodaro?
Boeing 737 due to its smaller size can be good candidate for easier and economical preservation.

I think that seems to be a good idea. Also since PIA was the first airline to use a Boeing 737 jet aircraft in Asia & since AP-BCA was the first Boeing 737 delivered to PIA, I think AP-BCA should be stored at the planned planetarium in Moenjodaro.Abbas Ali wrote:Probably one of PIA Boeing 737-300s will get preserved at planetarium planned to be established by the airline in Moenjodaro?

Any Sale of B747 to Iran requires US Government consent.Umair wrote:I dont think that PIA would be able to sell its B737, they would most probably be scrapped. However B747's could be sold and there are some customers out there like Iran Air who want to acquire B747's.

I think PIA should restore a 737 at the PAF museum in Karachi. This could be a huge marketing thing for the airline. Also, it wont be that hard to fly the plane to Faisal Base and then restore it next door. Also, one of the 737 was an ex PAF bird bought for VIP transport so they could also restore it in PAF livery. PIA on one side and the PAF livery on the other side would be just epic....

PIA should use these 737s to re start the Cargo operations , to middle east and further.
Just a suggestion.

I agree... this would be the best use and can be a good source of income as regional cargo market is huge
747s can also be used for this propose...

Not if its more than 10 years old. IR recently added a couple of 747-200's into its fleet including an ex-Qantas 747-300.Adnan Anwar wrote:Any Sale of B747 to Iran requires US Government consent.Umair wrote:I dont think that PIA would be able to sell its B737, they would most probably be scrapped. 747-200B AP-BAK and AP-BAT look same like Iran Air's Cargo and Passenger 747 engine GE
