Guys Just a correction

The 2008 ad people were 19 in total (13 of the flight check issue and 6 of karachi quota misallocation case) , out of which 6 are now operational. Now remaining cadets who are not operational are as follows

1) 13 from 2008 ad (They are waiting to go for sim and have completed technical and basic)
2) 15 from 2009 (sindh balochistan etc ad.....only done basic, waiting for technical)
3) 32 from 2011 ad (Only did there basic, have to do their technical)
4) 40 from the most recent ad (This batch has not even started basic yet so are not being paid the Rs 5000 stipened yet)

As per the management, currently there will be no new hiring of cadets until these are operational. This will most likely be the position unless there is a change in govt.

Correction:
30 Cadet Pilots (2011 ad)
43 Cadet Pilots (2012 ad)

So that makes 101 Cadet Pilots waiting to get operational hence next pilot induction wouldn't be soon enough !

The 737 comming on lease are only replacment for the current 737s, for which PIA has adequet pilots already. The 777 are only comming to supplement the HAJ operations.

You have to keep in mind that the issue is not only of the 101 cadets waiting for getting operational. PIA has a large excess of first officers on ATR so much so that the max and average ATR first officer flys is around 25 hours a month, which translates to around 5 flights a month, meaning 25 days off.

There are so many pilots online already also that i dont foresee an ad in the next 3 years atleast. But again, this is Pakistan and any thing can happen.

All the cadet pilots should be reevaluated by a new management at the time when Zardari Raj ends.

Why have incompentent sifarshees playing havoc with the lives of passengers.

I personally know of a sifarshee who was inducted this year.

All the cadet pilots go through strict ground schooling and simulator checks !
The proof of which is that 4 cadets of 2008 ad failed their 737 sim checks hence u cannot say PIA makes sifarishees operational compromising on safety !

Yes sifarishees are inducted and that will happen in every govt. era !

LOL!
I heard they were extreme cases though. I remember meeting one guy from India who had gotten his commercial from the Philippines who had come to our school to convert to a FAA commercial couldn't do it and went back to India. Three months later he comes back and this time to get a 737-4 type rating. I can't remember the name of the place that was training him but they sent him back to the flight school in two days telling him to go learn how to fly again.

PIA,s pilot induction is a culture behind the iron curtin. PIA as a mojor airline till today has not been able to construct a thorough method of testing and determining the eligiblity of pilot, if he /she is fit for the job. The method which PIA adopts for selection is nothing more than a joke. Any serious airline hiring manager, if comes to know the PIA testing method he will brust into laughter.

PIA creats a useless drama called PIA Flight Check, asking the DFO , other, the captian who conduct,s the ride a question , How do you they believe that by going through that bo bo bloney ride a cadet is fit to handle a high performance twin turbo prop or a jet. This is the method used for years because thats how these Captians were tested and thats the level od aeronautical knowledge they possess when they were inducted.

The only time was after 1995/1996 hiring when after the sim and aircraf training, there performence of those cadets of that batch PIA made it to the public in the paper media for several days by disclosing the names of pilots there training time there performance and recommended to terminate them from PIA but did not do so , those guys are now flying on international routes. not only the name of those guys , they gave out names of previous batch guys who were not fit for the job.

Then and now they all come with same low level of aeronautical knowledge and what wonder,s that how a guy who have never tested on a retractabe gear trainer goes to a 30 million dollar simulator and comes out so successsful.

Im sorry i completely disagree with you.
I dont think anyone is born with a twin turbo prop or jet rating.
This is a 'Cadet Pilot Program' where PIA inducts CPL/IR holders and trains them to fly jets on their own expense with a 5 year bond.
There is no such thing as 'low level aeronautical knowledge'. All cadets must pass the basic/technical ground school (which is quiet tough and thorough) in order to move on to the simulator training.

Regarding flight checks, obviously a guy with a CPL/IR has only flown a single engined certified trainer therefore it is only fair to conduct a flight check on the a/c the guy has flown.

There is a reason why PIA pilots have a reputation to be one of the best in the world.

squawk_1200 sounds like you didnt pass the flight checks, and are rather bitter about it.

aj357 makes the point well. i.e. its pointless evaluating someone on equipment/type theyve never handled. Its better to judge them on their abilities on handling the equipment they have trained on and should be proficient in handling. If they cannot manage that, and dont know their basics, then theyll never be able to manage anything more complicated.

Any experienced airline pilot will be able to determine the abilities of a new pilot within just a few minutes.

I think squawk_1200 must have never failed Mr.AN because...

Every one who fails the check ride is called again by the HR of PIA after few months if only they have a big wasta. In 2006 batch few cadets failed the check-ride and were given a second chance and then again in 2008 cadets were given a second chance.
Even People who have a fake degree are called again when ever they bring an original degree.

I don't think PIA selection procedure is 100 percent fair.

PIA loses billions on rupees every year and the only reason that happens is because the induction process in all of its departments is a joke. The wasta party can influence any process at any stage whether it be induction, training and promotions. In the last two years numerous cadets were inducted just because of their sifarish.

I don't blame Squawk_1200 for having an opinion like that for the checkride. If the PIA Captain is gonna check that the cadet is competent enough to climb, descent and do take off and landings is just ridiculous. A bus driver can be taught how to fly a 172
or a 152. Who's going to test their decision making abilities? Who will check understanding of IFR and why we shoot instrument approaches? Who will check if the pilot is even able to make a go or no go decision by giving him different scenarios concerning, weather, weight and balance and performance?

Are we hiring a monkey or a pilot?
