PIAs Network - Domestic & International

Post by raihans »

I wish that these maps could be interactive to provide sufficient information like aircraft type/distance mileage/flight duration etc. as most of the international airlines are having in flash format :-k

Thats an interesting map i must say - placement of the continents looks more like how they were during the triassic period.

So New York is in Nevada,Toronto is now closer to British Columbia,Barcelona/Jeddah/Dammam/Riyadh are in Morocco/Niger/Chad/Sudan respectively,Beijing is in central China and last but not least London,Glasgow and Bradford are all Islands in the North Atlantic.

PIA should rename that as the "New World Order" rather then its International Network!

PIA's version of 'New World Order' extends even to the home front. Lahore and Sialkot seem so far away from the Indian border (a news for sure), Faislabad has now moved between DI Khan in NWFP and Quetta (really!!!! ).

Lahore and Multan (a distance of about 250 miles) have become so much closer than Lahore and Sialkot (a distance of about 70 miles or so). Gladly PIA did not move KHI into the sea nor PEW into Afghanistan. A relief for now. :D

A very interesting map indeed.

Abu Dhabi and Leeds/Bradford missing.
Shame on PIA chairman, managing director, board of directors, staff, designers and all others related to the new livery, who have contributed to further ruination of this once prestigious airlines image.

With a network so vast you gotta forgive them for forgetting a couple of destinations such as Abu Dhabi. As for Leeds/Bradford,if you look closely you will find it off the coast of England - just south of Iceland in the North Atlantic!

Saudi Arabia map has been reengineered as well. Jeddah has now moved to the middle of country. Just so far away from ocean. Riyadh seems to have replaced places with Makkah or so. Dammam is now missing its proximity with the beautiful causeway on the sea between KSA and Bahrain. It is now stuck between Jeddah and Riyadh ever since PIA decided on its relocation. =D>

Those who drew and approved this map. Their heads need to be put in the sand....

...PIA is flying places, no kidding.

Since Boeing 777 is the latest and most modern long-haul aircraft in PIA fleet, so instead of Boeing 747, image of Boeing 777 should be used for printed and online items like this route network.

Following images show how with the passage of time PIA route network grew and expanded during past five decades i.e. from 1950s to 1990s.

1958 - PIA Domestic & International Route Network.

1962 - PIA Domestic & International Route Network.

The issue at hand is the latest map. It has messed up the locations of most of the world cities, including Pakistani ones, by moving them so far away from their locations. This has been correctly commented by so many of us.

Use of any specific aircraft type to any one of them was not the discussion topic.

The old maps are very good. The latest one is a total joke. PIA should be ashamed to even put this on the web, they just make themselves a laughing stock for the world. A 12 year old could do better...

In 1958 route map, Dusseldorf appears as one of possible future destinations. Don't know whether PIA started flights for Dusseldorf or not. Dusseldorf does not appear in 1962 PIA route map.

In 1972 route map, there are number cities like for example Sydney, Montreal, Los Angeles, Bucharest, Dusseldorf and Hamburg but route map does not show them connected with PIA flights network. Perhaps PIA had booking offices or sales agents in those cities and probably that's why those cities are shown in that map.

Here's closer look showing European continent in 1972 PIA route map:

Thank you abbas, it makes sense because '72 map also shows Milan, but at the same time we have a place like urumqi which was served for only six months, so how could it show up in a map of a year or more later.

Yes, Milan is also shown in that 1972 route map but like a number of other cities in that map it's also not shown connected with PIA flights network. I think PIA began serving Milan in 2004.

Was Urumqi PIA Cargo flights destination or PIA operated passenger flights to Urumqi ?

ISB-URC was started in Sept 2005 and run till Apr 2006 with A310, once or twice a week. What about Munich did they fly there or not? or was it just a connecting route through another airline.
