PIA Boeing 777 Aborts Takeoff at Lahore Airport

According to news sources, today a PIA Boeing 777 performing pre-Hajj flight PK-2057 to Jeddah aborted takeoff for some reason.

Four tyres of aircraft got burst or deflated due to aborted takeoff.

Probably the aircraft is Boeing 777-200LR registration AP-BGY.

According to latest reports:

PIA engineers are replacing four deflated/burst tyres of the Boeing 777. The replacement tyres came from Karachi.

The aircraft will depart after getting its engine repaired.

Probably takeoff aborted due to some problem with engine?

The aircraft was carrying 395 pilgrims and they have been shifted to airport lounge. There were 389 passengers aboard the aircraft, according to another news source.

Deflated tyre of PIA Boeing 777. The aircraft aborted takeoff due to engine problem, according to a news channel.

From information on radarbox24.com, it seems the aircraft was PIA Boeing 777-200LR registration AP-BGY. Apparently the incident happened around 3:02 PM. Flight PK-2057 was scheduled to depart at 2:00 PM.


According to information on Lahore Airport website, flight PK-2057 is now expected to depart at 6:30 PM.

Engine number one of the aircraft shown on a news channel. The aircraft appears to be a PIA Boeing 777-300ER most likely registration AP-BID.

Aircraft engine was hit by bird, according to Lahore News channel.

AP-BID had arrived in Lahore at 1:40 PM as Hajj ferry flight PK-2054 from Jeddah today.

The aircraft will depart after completion of repairs/inspections, according to PIA spokesperson.

PIA Boeing 777-200LR registration AP-BGY as alternate aircraft departed from Lahore at 9:29 PM as pre-Hajj flight PK-2057 to Jeddah with a delay of seven hours & twenty-nine minutes. The flight was scheduled to depart at 2:00 PM.

The Boeing 777-300ER (AP-BID) involved in the incident was unable to return to service. A five-member PIA Engineering team has arrived from Karachi to repair the grounded aircraft.

According to PIA spokesperson:

Due to lesser seating capacity of substitute Boeing 777 i.e. Boeing 777-200LR registration AP-BGY, around eighty passengers of flight PK-2057 have been adjusted in another flight that will depart on the morning of August 9.

Repairs work on the Boeing 777 that aborted takeoff i.e. Boeing 777-300ER registration AP-BID has begun and the aircraft is expected to return to service tomorrow.

According to the following photo shared on Plane Spotters Pakistan Forum Facebook group, AP-BID was undergoing an engine replacement.

"Most probably, the engine was transported to Lahore using PAF C130."

According to news channels, PIA Engineering personnel are working at Lahore Airport to replace damaged engine number one airline's Boeing 777-300ER registration AP-BID.

The replacement engine arrived in Lahore from Karachi probably transported by an Ilyushin Il-78MP Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft of Pakistan Air Force (PAF).
