Capt. Salim-ul-Haque and Co-Pilot Hamid Afzal on the flight deck of a PIA Boeing 747 at Toronto Airport, Canada, in 1992.

Capt. Salim-ul-Haq joined PIA in October 1958 and retired on May 8, 1992. He served as Vice President of Pakistan Air Line Pilots' Association (PALPA) from 1977 to 1978 and as President from 1979 to 1980 and later also served PIA as Director Flight Operations (DFO). During his career he flew Douglas DC-3, Fokker F27, Hawker Siddeley Trident, Boeing 707/720B, McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30 and Boeing 747. Capt. Salim's nickname during his PIA years was 'Har Dum Tayyar' meaning 'Ever-ready' in English and that's because he made himself available anytime other pilot was not available.
