Today, PIA pre-Hajj flight PK-2077 to Jeddah departed from Karachi at 10:54 AM without seventy pilgrims who protested against the airline at Karachi Airport. The passengers have been shifted to hotel(s) and will be accommodated in airline's Karachi to Jeddah flight PK-731 today. PK-731 is scheduled to depart from Karachi at 5:55 PM. PIA Boeing 777-200ER registration AP-BMH is expected to perform flight PK-731 today. According to PIA spokesperson, PK-731 will depart from Karachi at 10:00 PM tonight.

Probably the unavailability of a number of Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in PIA fleet is a reason for off-loading of seventy passengers from PK-2077 operated with smaller seating capacity Boeing 777-200ER.

Departure of PIA Karachi to Jeddah flight PK-731 is also delayed. PK-731 was expected to carry around seventy passengers who were off-loaded from airline's pre-Hajj flight PK-2077 due to operation of that flight with Boeing 777 with lesser number of seats.

Flight PK-731 was scheduled to depart from Karachi at 5:55 PM.

First flight to bring back Hajis to land on Aug 27

PESHAWAR:
The first flight to bring back the pilgrims after performing Haj would land at the Bacha Khan International Airport on August 27.
A private airline, the Airblue, would bring back the first batch of 170 pilgrims. The airline had flown the first batch of intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on July 14.

A high-level meeting to review the arrangements for the post-Haj flights operation was held at the Bacha Khan International Airport with its manager Samar Rafique in the chair.

The officials of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), district administration, Airport Security Force (ASF), Customs, security forces, health and other concerned departments attended the meeting.

The participants discussed strategy for the post-Haj flights operation and reviewed the arrangements. Samar Rafique informed the participants that Haj flights operation has been successfully completed as the last flight to take the intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia took off today (Wednesday).

He said the return process of the Hajis would start on August 27. The official said that around 30,000 pilgrims from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa went to Saudi Arabia to perform Haj. The meeting decided to allow the returning pilgrims to go home directly from the airport. It also decided to allow limited number of people to receive their relatives at the airport due to ongoing development work at there.

The CCA officials urged the people not to bring more than one vehicle at the airport to receive the Hajis to avoid inconvenience. As many as 18,000 pilgrims from KP are performing Haj under the government scheme and 12,000 people are doing so private schemes.

Hajj flights from Pakistan this year witness largest growth

According to Travelport’s analysis, as of 31 July, flights from Pakistan had seen the greatest growth in bookings through GDS around Makkah when compared to last year’s Hajj, with volume up 13,788 (+61%). Bookings from the United Kingdom saw the second highest rise, with volume up 4,324 (+47%). Bahrain came third having registered 4,306 more bookings (+173%) vs 2017. India and the United Arab Emirates completed the top five positions in the table. India saw an increase in bookings of 3,791 (+19%), while the United Arab Emirates recorded a rise of 2,887 (+24%). Overall, flight bookings around Makkah through GDS had been made from 148 countries around the world.

Matthew Powell, Travelport’s Managing Director for the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, said: “Every year, Hajj sees one of the greatest migrations of people on the planet. It is likely many of the rises in flight bookings we’ve seen through our analysis can, at least in part, be attributed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s government increasing the Hajj quotas for the countries in question. For example, in recent months, increases have been reported for countries including Pakistan, Bahrain and India.”
