Bacha Khan International Airport: NAB seeks details from CAA about recruitment, construction work

PESHAWAR:
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has sought details from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) about the recruitment of employees by it and construction work at the Bacha Khan International Airport.

In a letter addressed to the Airport Manager at the Bacha Khan International Airport, the NAB noted it was verifying a matter regarding the recruitment done by CAA on all cadres since 2008 and it therefore needed all the record of information about those recruited, including their name, father's name, CNIC number, post held, date of appointment and whether they were permanent or working on contract/contingent.

The NAB letter also sought information regarding the construction and renovation work at the domestic and international terminals at the airport. It wanted the CAA to provide the relevant record of PC-1 of the project, the advertisement that was placed, the bidding process and details of the payments made to the contractor.

It is unclear if there is any specific complaint about the recruitment process done by the CAA and the construction and renovation work at the airport in Peshawar named after late freedom-fighter Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, commonly known as Bacha Khan.

The airport has undergone expansion and renovation in recent years and its facilities have been upgraded. Passengers using these facilities for the first time are pleasantly surprised when they enter the airport. Earlier, the facilities at the airport left much to be desired.

Chief Operating Officer and Airport Manager of Bacha Khan International Airport - Peshawar, Obaidur Rehman Abbasi said that expansion of Bacha Khan International Airport - Peshawar, which was a state-of-the-art project, was in final stages and arrival facility would be opened for passengers by the end of March.

Multiple storied car parking was also in the planning and soon work on this project would start which would resolve the parking issue. Bacha Khan International Airport - Peshawar is the fourth busiest airport in the country and average 13 international flights are operated there on daily basis.

Had a chance to fly to PEW on a recent trip to Pakistan. Though the terminal building is complete and much better, yet found it strange that on arrival, the aircraft (a B773) stopped at apron, and was towed to the gate using a Tug. Found that the gates are in a confined corner of the Apron, as can bee seen in the picture in above post.

New international arrival terminal opens at airport

5/12/2019

PESHAWAR:
The newly-constructed international arrivals terminal at the Bacha Khan International Airport was inaugurated here on Saturday, said an official statement.

The terminal has capacity to accommodate around 1,000 passengers and has been equipped with latest scanning machines and other facilities. The statement said Civil Aviation Authority opened the terminal for passengers.

Construction of spacious terminal is part of the ongoing expansion project of the airport.

First phase of the airport was completed last year and former prime minister Shahid Khaqqan Abbasi had inaugurated the facility.

The statement said Rs. 3 billion had been spent on the project. Work on domestic lounge was completed last year. Officials said 12 immigration counters had been set up at the international terminal. They said remaining work would be completed soon.
