Seems like we are not the only ones suffering from problems with ATR:

A Wings Air Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration PK-WFK performing flight IW-1156 from Palu to Luwuk (Indonesia) with 64 people on board, was climbing out of Palu when the crew needed to shut the right hand engine (PW127) down due to the failure of the engine and returned to Palu for a safe landing about 7 minutes after the engine failure.
Passengers reported the right hand engine emitted a loud bang.
A resident east of the aerodrome found parts believed to be parts of the engine.
The flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.
Indonesia's KNKT reported the crew declared emergency reporting a right hand engine fire and returned to Palu for a safe landing 7 minutes after departure. The aircraft taxied to the apron. The occurrence was rated a serious incident and is being investigated by the KNKT.

The communication between aircraft and the controller sounds like real.
People from the departments working at the airports , security dept , fire brigade , airport vehicles ,airline dispatch office, have handheld scanners they can hear the pilot controller communications . What I picture is when people heard an aircraft declaring an emergency and mayday call, they got alert someone called the dept where communications can be heard requesting one of the colleague to record the audio on there personal devices such as cell phone.
A lady voice popped up few times in the audio probably she was recording.
Airplane is flown with brain not with stick and rudder.

Wings Air is on the EU Blacklist.faisal-777 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2017 10:07 am Seems like we are not the only ones suffering from problems with ATR:
It's not very smart bringing up examples and comparisons from black listed airlines. If you look at avherald, you will see Wings air has had a a lot of ahem, "incidents".
Engines fail every day all over the world from every engine manufacturer. That's the nature of turbomachinery and the stresses they undergo everyday. That's why pilots have operating procedures AND why aircraft are built to fly (with performance margins) on one engine.
A lot of Pakistani members here are going to be eating their words when it transpires their "best pilots in the world" are to blame.

Re: PIA ATR Flight PK-661 Crashes Near Havelian
I alsi listened to the recording, i noticed there were alarms going off in the background of PK661 (sounded like the alarm for stall?) or some other alarm definitely specially around the mayday calls.
Can we expect a real and true report from the CVR/FDR so we can find out the causes. Hopefully it wasn't situational awareness cuz of terrain issue.
Anyways, hope the report is released soon.
How many ATR's are still grounded ??

i don't know whether this authentic, but repeatedly asking an aircraft if it is 'victor mike' when confirmation has already been obtained is in bad taste and unprofessional. The channel should have been immediately cleared of other aircraft when the aircraft had declared an emergency quite sometime back.

I would call it a rumor, yet this is widely known in the circles that know inside stories.
In the last 25 minutes of recording, CVR did not pick up any voice signal from captain of the ill fated plane.

Parts of PIA’s ATR-42 to be sent abroad for investigation
ISLAMABAD: It has been decided that the remaining parts of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-661 plane ATR-42, will be sent abroad for investigation.
The parts will be dispatched to Canada and France in two days. Furthermore, parts of ATR-42 are also being examined by the maker of this aircraft.
The investigation report will be presented to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif afterwards.
It is pertinent here to mention that flight PK-661 was en route to Islamabad from Chitral on December 7 last year when it lost communication with air traffic control and crashed some ten kilometres of Havelian, killing all the passengers and crew members onboard.
