It was taking part in two-day paragliding festival/tournament held in Azad Kashmir. Some of the paragliders took off from hills of Peer Chinasi at the height of 9,000 feet and landed on Muzaffarabad Airport runway.

In 1980s and 1990s, PIA operated non-stop flights to/from Muzaffarabad Airport that connected Muzaffarabad with Rawalakot and Islamabad.
PIA used its two de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter 300 aircraft that were capable of performing Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) from Muzaffarabad Airport's 2,960 feet long runway.
