Former Pakistan Army Helicopter at Eindhoven Airport

Former Pakistan Army Mil Mi-8MTV-1 helicopter (ex-serial number 58506), airframe construction number 94512, photographed at Eindhoven Airport, Netherlands, on December 19, 2011. The helicopter missing vital components was transported to Eindhoven Airport by an Ilyushin Il-76.

Pakistani markings i.e. star & crescent on tail fin and roundel on fuselage have been painted out.

According to discussion on scramble.nl website forum, it was one of five helicopters acquired as spares source by Afghanistan from Pakistan. These former Pakistan Army helicopters, including ex-serial number 58506, were seen stored at Kabul Airport on June 11, 2011.

I dont think PA has or had MI-8 MTV in inventory. All were MI-17. Anti Norcotics Force used to operate 2 MI-8 MTVs (one crashed during eart quake releife operations in oct 2005). Seems a bit strange that Afghanistan would get old PA helicopters as spares source.
As an aside, when a russian machine gets old, there is nothing left to scavenge.

Btw, according to info on www.airfighters.com, the helicopter arrived at Eindhoven Airport to get refurbished by a company named Prust Holding B.V. based at that airport.

Prust Holding B.V. "is a leading supplier of aviation parts and services specializing in the provision of spare parts for Russian made Mi-type helicopters", according to info on company's official website www.prustholding.com.

Probably Pust Holding B.V. plans to restore this helicopter airframe to airworthy condition or use it as spares source ?

Btw, all these helicopters are actually Mil Mi-17 (Mi-8M series in Russian service) as indicated by presence of dust shields in front of engine intakes and tail rotor on port-side.

Abbass, let me chip in a bit. MI-8 is the most produced (single type) helicopter in the world. More than 11000 have been built.
There are many variants on MI-8 but basically these are :
MI-8 (original helicopter) Tail rotor on starboard side, 2 x TV2-117 engines @ 1500 shp each
MI-8MTV tail rotor on port side, 2 x TV3-117 VM engines @ 2000 shp each (Russian domestic market)
MI-17, 2 x TV-117VN Series 2 engines @ 2200 shp each (export variant)
MI-171; Same as MI-17 built by Ulan Ude plant
MI-17 V7, same as MI-17 with new VK2500 engines with FADEC @ 2400 shp each.

Btw, is it possible to know whether this helicopter (registration UK-27089) in PIA livery is a Mil Mi-17 or Mil Mi-8MTV-1.



Information on following link identifies UK-27089 as Mil Mi-8MTV-1 but I remember somwhere else it was identified as Mil Mi-17.
