Having successfully twisted PK arms for selling airbuses, EU is after Indonesia now. They experimented with Africa followed by PK. I love to wait for the day when they do it to one of their major trade partners like US. Well for now it is unthinkable.

Suceeded with PIA and Pakistan - EU after Indonesia now
Which Airbuses has PIA bought since the ban? The A310 were bought in the early 90s and the leased ones added a few years before the ban.Having successfully twisted PK arms for selling airbuses

Javed i doubt its the case, BAN had nothing to with A vs B buying of aircrafts by PIA, Garuda Indonesia had lots of Airbuses and big ones yet they are banned now due to improper maintenance and safety of there aircrafts...javed wrote:Since the new order is not officially public yet, the ban is also partially lifted.
I just hope PIA orders NG B737-700/800 instead of Crappy A320/321!!, these will be killers for PIA and will accumulate more ground miles then air miles over give time...

First of all any airline ordering or cancelling any aircraft type can be due to many reasons.
No.1 Especially in case of Pakistan, is the lobby which is supporting the aircraft type. Which general or air marshal is in which lobby.
No.2 The finacial situation of the airline, and the package the manufacturer is offering. Sometimes the economics of the aircraft might be weaker, but the favorable terms and financial package tilts the balance.
The reason Emirates did not want the A340-600, is because just after Emirates ordered it, a more powerfull version was announced by Airbus, and Emirates felt that is a better product for its routes.
Airlines like Lufthansa, Iberia, Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways, Virgin, South African and Etihad operate the A340-600.
While PIA, Japan Airlines, Air France, Emirates, Air Canada, and SIA operate the 777-300ER.
What does this mean, is one better then the other?? Not really, both are good planes, just different options for different airlines.
As for Gulf Air cancelling the order of 777, well that was probably due to loss of Abu Dhabi to Etihad, and the losses Gulf Air made reducing the capital base.
What all businesses look at is the N.P.V (Net Present Value) of a deal. Some get better results with Boeings and some Airbuses.
Both are good planes.
