Despite sanctions, Iran has done very well to maintain and operate ageing US-built civilian aircraft like Boeing 707, Boeing 727, Boeing 747 and military aircraft like F-14, F-4, F-5 and C-130.

I remember reading this sometime back, but it's not exactly true. Despite the planes being polished on the outside and outstanding in-flight service, the planes are crippling and suffer from technical faults on a regular basis.
