Peshawar to London - New Route?

Post by Aftab PK786 »

Asalamalakium,

Brothers I was reading in Urdu the news alert on ARY One World and it said that Pakistan International Airline (PIA) will start a new route which is from Peshawar to London Heathrow Airport, direct which has been confirmed but no date has been set for the launch.

I was wondering if anybody else has heard about this new route launch and if anybody has any idea on when they might start this route and what aircraft do you think will be appropriate for this route and the success factor of this route?

That would make more sense since Birmingham has a large community originating from Attock.

Thats good that at least they have started a flight to Peshawar, but i didn't know there was that much demand for it!

I would have thought that a flight to Faisalabad and Multan would have made much more sense. There are so many Punjabi people from that area in the UK, esp from Gojra/Toba Tek Singh/Faislabad/Pir Mahal/Multan etc. It seems that PIA is ignoring central Punjab, where a lot of people actually come from!!!

There's a large number of Pakistanis and Afghans in the UK who wish to travel to Peshawar. The last decade saw a significant number of Afghan asylum seekers entering the UK. Many of these were actually Pakistanis from Peshawar. Many real Afghans have their families in Peshawar now or travel to Afghanistan via Peshawar.

PIA now flies between Peshawar and London

PESHAWAR:
For the first time in the history of NWFP the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has started a weekly flight between Peshawar and London.

The first flight on the route was operated from Peshawar on September 2. The second such flight would leave Peshawar for London today (September 9).

The flight leaves Peshawar every Saturday at 7:30AM and makes a stop at Karachi. The passengers from Peshawar undergo immigration and customs checks at Peshawar and remain onboard when the plane lands at Karachi. Once Karachi passengers board the plane, it flies to London arriving there at 2:30PM.

Abrahim Yousafzai, PIA district manager for NWFP, told 'The News' that the fare for the return ticket from Peshawar-London-Peshawar was Rs 28,800 only. He said the passengers in London are also provided free of cost drop facility from the airport to central London.

He said the flight to London was started due to persistent demand from the passengers in the NWFP. He said the response to the flight had been tremendous and the demand for the tickets would grow as people come to know about it. Following the introduction of the flight to London, there are now 18 international flights by PIA operating out of Peshawar. There are flights to three destinations in the United Arab Emirates – Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Then there are PIA flights to Jeddah and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, and to Kuwait, Doha in Qatar, Muscat and Kabul.

The PIA district manager said starting a flight between Peshawar and Kuala Lumpur would also be a profitable venture due to the fact that a large number of people from Buner, Swat and other parts of NWFP were serving in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and other countries in the Far East.

He said the timings of PIA flights between Peshawar and Dubai had been changed on Thursdays and Fridays from 5:45AM in the morning to 4:15PM in the afternoon to facilitate passengers. “The passengers from far-off places in the NWFP faced problem catching the early morning flight to Dubai from Peshawar. Driving to Peshawar during the night was risky and many of them spent the night in hotel or outside the airport. Now they can easily reach Peshawar to catch the afternoon flight to Dubai,” he explained. PIA operates seven days a week flights from Peshawar to Dubai. The timings on Thursdays and Fridays have been changed for the time-being while the remaining flights five times a week are still flying out of Peshawar in the mornings.

Abrahim Yousafzai said efforts were also being made to operate flights between Peshawar and Karachi at the same time every day. He said presently there was no uniformity in these timings as the PIA flight to Karachi leaves Peshawar at different times every day of the week. He conceded it was confusing to operate flights on the Peshawar-Karachi route at different times every day.
