Three Late Departures

Post by Aftab PK786 »

Asalamulkium,

I was just wondering why today Monday 24th July 2006 the entire flights bound to England have departed late from Islamabad International Airport as follows:

PK785 scheduled to depart at 10.50am departed at 14.45pm and is expected at 18.40pm rather than 15.00pm.

PK791 scheduled to depart at 11.00am departed at 14.23pm and is expected at 18.40pm rather than 15.45pm.

PK701 scheduled to depart at 07.10am departed at 14.00pm and is expected at 18.02pm rather than 11.40am.

I can understand one flight departed late but all three flights departed that late especially PK701 with a difference of 5 hours and 50 minutes. Was their something going on at Islamabad International Airport because I am confused?

:? :? :?

Monsoon season

Yes, its that time of the year again.
PK702/23jul06 man-isb was diverted to LHE due heavy and persistent thundery rain with poor visibility and several other flights were also diverted to neighbouring airports due to the same problem.
PK701/24jul06 isb-man operates the same aircraft and there was a big knock-on delay of about 6.5 hrs late today.
Aircraft operating was AP-BGG.

We Pakistanis have the habit of playing blame games. Its easy to throw the blame blame the airline, govt or or in this case airports. well if u had seen the wx on monday morning you would have realised that no CAT  would have allowed the aircraft to depart.

Dear 777
If by CAT u mean tha ILS CAT, we have only ILS CAT 1 at Pakistani airports. Few years back there was a move to uggrade Lahore airport for ILS CAT II operations due to fog problems in winters. But it never materialised as they thought that cost of upgradation far outwieghs the benifits as the fog is only for 15-20 days in winters.

For your information the minimas for various ILS CATs are reproduced.
CAT I DH 200 feet RVR 2400 feet
CAT II. DH 100 feet RVR 1200 feet
CAT IIIA DH <100 feet RVR 700 feet
CAT III B DH <50 feet RVR <700 feet
CAT III C DH ZERO RVR ZERO

Anything beyond CAT I is an autopilot coupled (AUTOLAND)

Yes there was talk on upgrading LHE to CAT II-B but what can you say, it's just one of those things.
