There is no inch of land left around Chaklala for ISB to expand. The land for new Islamabad Airport is right next to motorway and it is not outside Rawalpindi at all. It is nicely located as the newest airport of Pakistan.Saadu wrote:Doesnt look like its in a nice place. Away from Rawalpindi even. I hope they had considered upgrading the current airport. Buy the land around it and expand it like they did with Lahore.
Insider reports from NJ, USA design consultant which is also leading the architectural efforts and competition for the best design, the Pakistan govt has given instructions for the design to rival/revive mughlia architecture.
So I am happy that everyone has realized our parliament design is boxy, Jinnah terminal building shows nothing of heritage as well and Alama iqbal also failed to show our signature architectural lines of mughals. So lets hope for curvy lines.

Exactly, we need something other than a box sturcture like Jinnah Intl and Allama Iqbal Intl. A glass and Steel struture is needed for ISB. The airport also need to be built with future growth patterns including capacity to handle larger aircraft at one time. e.g. the B747-8 and A380.CoyBoy wrote:I would prefer glass and steel like Dubai rather than cultural crap.
I think the proposed site is better than building it near the old airport becasue it will allow development around the airport to built to international standards. A prime example is AIIA as the airport was built away from the city the area look natural with good future prospects to grow into a well established planned area.

There is already an airfield near Fatehjang. I found this out on google earth. The location is 33 32'53.53 N 72 37'54.85 E which is just to the south west of Fatehjang, roughly where the map on the new airport website points to.The new airport site is located on 3,200 acres of land, which was acquired by CAA in the 80’s at Pind Ranjha near Fateh Jang
Is this airfield going to be developed into the new airport? It appears to have two runways, although they don't seem big enough to handle jets.
