B777 is the right choice.

this is what Emirates President Tim Clark said about A340 and Airbus in an interview recently

he said:
"The four-engined A340 is in difficulties because of its high fuel consumption, the A330 because Boeing's 787 is superior. For me, there is a massive question mark behind the whole Airbus range, with the exception of the A320 and A380.
and:
"Airbus has a load of problems."
and he said:
"The A350 has a maximum of 340 seats, the A380 has 550. And between them? Nothing.

"If Airbus really wants to compete with Boeing, it needs another aircraft."

If theres nothing b/w the A350 and the A380 seatswise, then what about the A346??

I think they are talking about "competitive" aircrafts (vs Boeing).

Before Pakistan bought B777, a study was done to acquire A330. The reason being that the cockpit was similar to A319 and it was fuel efficient (being 2 engine aircraft). The company (American) that financed the deal made a clause that PIA should acquire American bouth aircrafts.
Now that we have already bought Boeings, PIA should stay with Boeing Boeing planes and keep the fleet uniform and that is one way we can keep the costs down. Southwest Airlines has been successful by doing the same. My option: B777ER

hhh....lets see..maybe there are other factors rather than some American company telling PK which planes to purchase..

(do you have any proof by the way)

1)you probably meant A310 or A300, as PK never had the A319....
2)while a great plane, the A330-200 competes more with the 767-300/767-400 series then with the 777-200ER...also, the A330-300, which competes with the 777-200ER, doesn't stack up to the 777-200ER in terms of economics, cargo, trip costs, etc...now if an Air Carrier had a fleet of A330's (such as Lufthansa), then it makes sense for them to get the A330-300 over the B777-200ER..
3)The A340-300 competes with the B777-200ER....and its quite obvious the 777-200ER beats the A340-300 hands down

now, rather than making some unsubstantiated posts, bring some proof..

The 777-300ER can easily fit 434 passengers in a 2 class configuration. 49 in J and 385 in Y. The 743's fits 433 in a two class layout. So it seems that the 773ER is the best replacement for the 743's. However, i still feel that PIA are going to induct some used 744/74E's.

I hope they withdraw the economy plus scheme in the new boeing 773ER's. They should look to a least induct 5 773ERs in the fleet and maybe an additional base 773 (non-ER) as well.

Personally, I don’t want to see PIA buy used planes again in the future.

Also, the current management has plans to bring down PIA average fleet age from twenty years to nine years. I don’t think PIA Chairman Tariq Kirmani will consider buying used 747-400s or any other used aircraft type for the airline.
