Post by PIA777 »

Well, after coming back from JFK i got a call that PK712 Boeing 747-300 to Manchester was delayed because of an "engine" problem. Now this morning a message was recoreded on the answering machine that the flight was cancelled until further notice and MIGHT leave at 4 today..i just want to know why it got cancelled...if anyone has any info. on this please let me know..

delayed pk712/05mar

Post by SENIOR »

Yep its those 747's again - this time ap-bfy
pk711/04mar khi-lhe-man-jfk left on sat thanks to khi letting the acft go with generator probs.
After some debate at man the part was changed causing nearly a two hour delay after 02 engine runs on the ramp.
On arrival at jfk it seems both generators went out causing an over-night stop at jfk. Hence delaying returning pk712 jfk-man-lhe-khi.
There were over 100 pax jng at man for this flt nd we managed to adjust roughly half on pk796 on sun 5mar, rest went to hotels/home.
BFY however was fixed well before time but due to crew rest probs it resulted in an extended delay at jfk.
BFY's timing was fixed at man as 0325/0525 - 06mar ie 19hrs late!!
pk717 b772 also leaves for jfk from khi on sun nd returns mon as pk718
so it looks like jfk had there hands full this weekend !!

Currently there are fwlng jfk flts until 25mar 04 flts via man -
wed pk721/722 b74m - combi isb-man-jfk nd back
fri pk715/716 b772 - khi-lhe-man-jfk nd back
sat pk711/712 b743 - khi-lhe-man-jfk nd back
sun pk717/718 b772 - khi-man-jfk nd back

The proposed summer sked frm 26mar-28oct 02 flts via man -
fri pk715/716 as abv
sat pk717/718 as abv

Boeing 747-367 (AP-BFY), in background, about to undergo engine run. Flight PK711 after receiving info from Karachi about generator problems, they left the part in the bulk compartment to replace before going technical in New York-JFK yesterday.
Boeing 747-367 (AP-BFW) flight PK702 Manchester to Islamabad also departed late due to some families held by customs before diverting to Karachi due to technical problem.

Thank you SENIOR for sharing info and photo.

So the aircraft flew from Kharachi to Manchester with one generator out??

and then later near JFK both generators failed whilst still airborne??
