Naming the aircraft in PIA's fleet
According to an article in Brecorder Tariq Kirmani said to improve cultural heritage of Pakistan they will name each aircraft in the fleet...so the obvious question is what will the names be ? Will they be similiar to the ones we had back in the 1990s, however as we dont have the A300s anymore which city/area will get those names ?
Here's the extract from the article if anyones interested;
PIA to promote country's culture: Kirmani
ISLAMABAD (January 19 2006): PIA Chairman Tariq Kirmani on Wednesday said the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have prepared a plan to promote country's culture through aircraft.
Speaking in a PTV programme, he said each aircraft will be named after a particular area, province, or city and would exhibit the culture peculiar to that.

Maybe they can have a system for the naming of the aircraft
For example, the heavy jets B747s could be named after provinces and the next ones i.e. the B777 named according to larger cities e.g. KHI /LHE/ ISB etc and the smaller ones B737/ATR after smaller towns e.g. Chitral / Gilgit etc
Therefore each province has equal representation on heavies as well as narrow bodies.

I knew that, at the moment as there are 6 B743 and 2 B742,Nasir wrote:What do you do when you have more than 4 heavies?!PK777 wrote:the heavy jets B747s could be named after provinces
we can name them Sindh, Punjab, NWFP and Balochistan
Then the smaller territories e.g. Islamabad Capital Territory, FATA and PATA, Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas
However, if PIA intentions are to have more than nine heavies (B747s) in the future i guess we could include capital of each province or territory

There are many unsung heros of Pakistan, both past and present, so how about naming the planes after them. No politicians or Military rulers should be included. The ones I can think of are:
Abdul Sattar Edhi
Professor Abdus Salam, Nobel Laureate in Physics (1979)
Hakim Saeed

Ahmad Hafeez
