Re: New Islamabad International Airport Project
NIIAP to be operational from October 2016
ISLAMABAD: New Islamabad International Air Port (NIIAP) Project Director Pervez Hayat Khan on Thursday said that the airport will be operational from October 2016.
He said this during a meeting with a delegation of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) led by ICCI President Muzzamil Hussain Sabri.
The ICCI President said that the Benazir Bhutto International Air Port (BBIAP), in a recent survey, has been declared the worst airport in the world. “Therefore, the NIIAP will serve the purpose of uplifting the image of our federal capital,†he added. He said that a business facilitation centre should also be established at the new vicinity to meet the demands of the business community.
“The work on NIIAP is 95 percent completed and the airport fosters a state-of-the-art facility with three times more passengers handling capacity, four-storey terminals and 15 boarding bridges,†Project Director Khan said. He further stated that a 135-megawatt (MW) grid station has been built to cope with energy requirements.
The project director apprised the meeting that the entire NIIAP covered an area of about 3,300 acres. He expressed concern over delay in the construction of NIIAP which has led to the increase in overall cost from Rs 38 billion to Rs 85 billion.

78% of Construction Work Completed
Seventy-eight percent of New Islamabad International Air Port (NIAAP) construction work has been completed, according to PTV News report today (November 10). The construction work will be completed next year.
The report showed video of the under-construction airport recorded today. According to the news report, initially the airport will have parallel primary and secondary runways. The secondary runway will be used mainly as a taxiway. The primary and secondary runways do not have distance required for simultaneous operations because only one runway will be used at a time.

Re: New Islamabad International Airport Project
This is a good example of a project that has failed. There is no control or whatsoever on who is doing what. Looks like people come and work when they want. Even 2016 will not be realistic.

Re: New Islamabad International Airport Project
Something doesn't look right, they construct a so-called "larger airport" but still only about 10 gates or so for the terminal ?
What is the advertised capacity of this new space ?
It'd be disappointing if new airport has few gates and few parking for aircraft.
