Today, Airports Security Force (ASF) shot down a drone flying over Islamabad International Airport. The drone controlled by three Chinese was being used to make video of the new airport without permission from the relevant authorities. The Chinese have been detained for questioning by security personnel/agencies.
Drone wreckage is in the custody of security forces for examination.

Drone filming new airport shot down
RAWALPINDI - The Airports Security Force (ASF) on Thursday shot down a drone which was filming the New Islamabad International Airport, sources informed The Nation.
The ASF also took into custody three Chinese nationals who were operating the drone and recording the video of the airport, they added.
According to the sources, a staffer of ASF was on routine security duty at the New Islamabad International Airport when he spotted a drone hovering over the airport. He immediately shot down the drone and seized the wreckage, they said.
Later on, he reported the matter to the higher authorities who sprang into action following the incident and took three Chinese nationals who were involved in recording video of the airport, they added.
There were some unconfirmed reports that the ASF called Attock police and handed the Chinese nationals to them for further investigation.
However, District Police Officer Attock Ibadat Nisar, when contacted, said they were Chinese workers working at the New Islamabad International Airport.
“We have not arrested the Chinese nationals as they have not done anything illegal,” he added.
Meanwhile, the sound of gunshot created panic at the airport as other law enforcement agencies also came into action and beefed up security inside and outside the airport.

ASF mistakenly shoots down camera drone
By Mohammad Asghar | 4/20/2018
RAWALPINDI: Three Chinese nationals and two Pakistanis were detained by the Airport Security Force (ASF) after the ASF mistakenly shot down a camera drone belonging to a Chinese construction company working on the Islamabad International Airport on Thursday.
Security sources said the three Chinese nationals are associated with construction at the airport and have been vetted.
All five individuals were released later on.
The official said they have been clearly instructed to shoot down any object, such as a drone, that violates security.
The drone was spotted by an ASF official flying over the drop lane at around 11:10am.
The security official, with the permission from the ASF chief security officer, shot down the drone, which was recording the airport terminal without permission from the concerned authorities.
The debris of the drone fell in the general car park, but did not injure anyone.
ASF staff spotted four people rushing towards the car park to collect the remnants of the drone and arrested them and shifted them to the ASF control room.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the Chinese nationals who have been arrested were working for a Chinese construction company on the new airport.
They told investigators they had received permission from the Civil Aviation Authority, before the ASF took over security at the airport.
A security official said their mobile phones had been conhscated and their call data was reviewed.
The new airport is set to become operational from May 3. Earlier, the new facility was to be inaugurated by the prime minister on April 20. The opening, however, was delayed at the eleventh hour after the authorities found some deficiencies.

Rabbani slams BB name’s removal from new airport
April 21, 2018
ISLAMABAD - Former chairman Senate and Pakistan People’s Party Senator Raza Rabbani Friday expressed his serious concerns over the change in the name of new Islamabad airport while removing the name of slain PPP leader Benazir Bhutto, urging the government to withdraw its decision.
Calling the decision as “petty act”, Raza Rabbani in a letter written to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the national print media had recently carried a statement of Advisor to PM on Aviation confirming that “Benazir Bhutto International Airport will henceforth at its new premises be called, Islamabad International Airport”. He said that he was sure that some civilian bureaucrats in the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) are behind this move. The government is set to shift the Benazir Bhutto International Airport to its new premises on May 3 with its new name “Islamabad International Airport.”
“This is an unfortunate reflection on how we honour our civilian national heroes,” Rabbani said in the letter, adding that Shaheed Mohartama Benazir Bhutto was a valiant fighter in the struggle for democracy, rule of law and the supremacy of Constitution. “She freed this country from the shackles of Zia’s martial law and finally was assassinated in the streets of Rawalpindi, crusading against terrorism and extremism.”
Rabbani further said that in the memory of her assassination, the Islamabad airport was renamed Benazir Bhutto International Airport. “This is not uncommon, I am sure you will recall that Idlewild International Airport, New York, USA was renamed as John F. Kennedy (JKF) International Airport after his assassination in Dallas Texas,” he said. He reminded that a large number of airports throughout the world bore the names of prominent international personalities.
“I am given to understand that the move of renaming the said airport was at the behest of certain civil bureaucrats in the Civil Aviation Authority. This petty act will not subtract from Shaheed Mohatarma’s place in history but is a sad reflection on us as a nation and more particularly on your government,” said Rabbani. He further said that keeping in view of the fact that naming of important national buildings and monuments with the name of the civilian leadership was already far and few. Rabbani in the end called upon the Prime Minister to withdraw this “uncalled for and inappropriate decision.”
